The Pension Benefits Guaranty Corporation has consistently ensured that employees get their pension after retirement or when the firm or company they were working for collapses. This is an excellent initiative by the federal government without which many employees would lose their pension contribution mostly to firms which go bankrupt. As a future employee, I would prefer the defined contribution plan rather than the defined benefit plan in view of the projected future of PBGC. CFFI has suggested that in 15 years, PBGC will most likely not be able to pay employees their benefits due to lack of enough money. Already the corporation operates on a deficit of serious magnitudes and if the projections any ting to go by, it will be impossible or very difficult to get pension benefits from the government corporation due to lack of enough money. A contribution plan will ensure that I get pension commensurate with my contribution and earnings. It is mush safer to opt for the defined contributions plan because in this case pension benefits are provided on the basis of the contribution of the employee as well as that of the employer as opposed to monthly contributions. This offers guarantee for payment.

Rating of employees’ performance is an exercise that should be approached with caution. It must include all the managers from all the departments. The problem with the human resources department has been aggravated by leakages of information from the management level to the workers. The naming of the various levels of grading giving them the names of objects and animals is very dehumanizing to the employees and has demoralized the bottom quarter who are referred to as dogs. The managers need to be more sensitive and considerate to the needs of the workers and should stop harassing them. Sackings have been carried out in a discriminate manner, which is very unfair to the workers who are not in the union. All workers ought to be treated equally if the situation is to improve. New entry employees should not be graded as failures while they have not yet been given time to train for the job before they can be tested. The CEO needs to put in place appraisal evaluation measures in order to arrest the situation which threatens the existence of the company.

The issue of productivity management sometimes referred to as performance management is an area of great concern to public mangers. There are several strategies that can be used in public management but the selection and use of the most suitable one depends on the situation and the manager involved. Managers in the public sector are usually confronted with complex problems that require strategy thinking in order to find the most suitable way forward (Milakovich, & Gordon, 2007). These complex issues present a big challenge to the government in trying to find the most appropriate method to use. It is important to choose the strategy that considers long-term goals in its approach to the problem.

QUANTITATIVE METHODS

Analytical methods are useful in any business setting as well as in a variety of fields where the results of an undertaking must be evaluated so as to determine success.
