The topic of this essay will be attention which is discussed in Chapter 5. In your essay, discuss the four aspects of attention that develop with age. Give an example of someone you know (maybe yourself) who is struggling or has struggled with symptoms of ADHD. Describe at least 2 of their symptoms and how these symptoms seem to relate to the four aspects of attention development.
TO BE RE-WRITTEN FROM THE SCRATCH
Fleeting Attention
As children develop from 0-1 year, attention usually flits in children from one thing to another. It is usually an involuntary and it is usually brought about by stimuli. For example, attention mostly shifts from one individual or object to the preceding one and the child is distracted by an event that is occurring for instance a cloud, thunder, noise or a moving object that is making sound (Fish, Adlam, Limond, & Lah, 2017).
Rigid Attention
After the child attains the age of 1-2 years develops rigid attention where their attention becomes involuntary. A child can pay or attend task of their choice as they ignore the external stimuli so that they can maintain their focus for example, they may concentrate on blocks even though they will ignore adult intervention either through verbal or visual aspects (Valdois et al., 2019).
Single-Channeled Attention
When the child attains the age of 2-3 years they still fail to attend to stimuli that is other than the one they are focusing on the activity they are attending. The children can at times shift attention drawing from the attention f the adults. At this moment the entire control of a child’s attention lies with an adult for instance in case a child is playing a game an adult could make them shift attention by saying look at this and the child attention will shift by responding and then it will go back to the game (Valdois et al., 2019).
Focusing Attention
After 3-4 years a child starts to control their focus but their attention is only on one activity. The child usually gives full attention to a particular task including audio and visual (Valdois et al., 2019). The child can also refocus and focus their attention using their discretion for instance; a child playing a game can halt when an adult speaks and then resume.
ADHD
It is usually attention deficit hyperactivity disorder that is mostly characterized by inattention an example myself at time I suffer and friends tell me I display difficulty regulating emotions or issues with executive function.
This issue affects children
Impulsiveness: This tendency occurs when children portray an attitude of shock, for instance, when they are doing something wrong if they are shouted at they can react by urinating or having vigoro…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….. aspects of attention that develop with age
