The increased competition, dwindling economic fortunes and increasing demands from the consumers has altered the nature of partnerships between companies and those with its customers. The private sector relies on collaboration with the public for resources and publicity, while for-profit companies collaborate with other companies to increase their bottom lines. According to (Volkmann, Tokarski, & Ernst, 2012, p. 84) collaboration can be defined as the act of building a working relationship with others.
