Elements in community facility planning
Improving quality of life of residents by providing facilities that cater for a wide range of services is an element that should be considered in community facility planning. This involves having various types of community facilities. These include such facilities as health and education centers, fire and police stations as well as senior and child care facilities. The facilities should be able to cater for the community needs (Tompkins, et al., 2010). For example, the health center should offer services that cater for the health issues prevalent in the community.
Another element to consider is the efficient delivery of public services to the residents. This can be attained through assessment, rehabilitation and maintaining facilities and lands.Assessment would include collecting data about the facilities and services offered (Brower, 2020). Those that seem to be inefficient indelivery of the services can be rehabilitated. For example, a community college that seems to be overcrowded due to demand for its services can be rehabilitated so that it is able to cater for more people.
Community facilities planning should also consider availability, affordability and quality of essential services and facilities (Brower, 2020). Such facilities and services include healthcare, education and transportation. There could be a 24-hour health facility that offers essential services at minimal fee. The services can include maternal care, counseling and ambulance facilities.
Other elements to consider in determining facility planning within a community include building and maintaining efficient road and transit facilities and services, offering free and accessible recreational facilities, maintaining efficient and effective water, drainage and sewerage facilities, offering affordable housing, protecting the environment for sustainability and catering for residents with special needs (Tompkins, et al., 2020).Considering these involves an analysis of the existing facilities with a view to maintaining, adding or expanding them.
