Thoughts on Fusion Centers
A fusion center is an information sharing center, that was created in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks. The 9/11 attacks pointed the extent of disjoint in information sharing regarding the terrorist threats and their subsequent activities. The creation of the fusion centers was seen by the U.S department of justice as a step forward towards facilitating the information flow. The center provides a platform where citizens can make calls and report about any suspicious activities, enabling the federal, state and local law enforcement agencies to make investigations and respond accordingly. Moreover, the centers act as platform where the federal level agencies, such as the FBI, CIA and state and local law enforcement can share information. Since their inception after the 9/11 attacks, the fusion centers have been affective, playing crucial roles in addressing some of the problems identified after the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
