Health Disparities and Implicit Bias in Healthcare
            Although there is a significant improvement in healthcare in the United States, there remains a disparity in healthcare across cultures. According to (Major, Mendes & Dovidio, 2013) health among disadvantaged groups defined by race, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, citizen-immigration status and ethnicity, have poor health compared to those from higher social groups. However, research has found that healthcare disparities extend beyond the structural and economic factors observed among individuals to include synergistic contributions of culture, individual-level factors, context and intergroup dynamics.
In their study, (Major, Mendes & Dovidio, 2013) found that other than structural and socio-economic factors, stereotypes and In addition to other causes Penner et al., (2010) points that the observed healthcare disparity in the U.S can be attributed to racial prejudice and stereotypes by the healthcare providers. In particular Penner et al., found that black patients tend to show less trust in their physician after visits than before visits.
