Caring refers to the practice of showing kindness and concern towards other people. Every nursing practitioner has a duty to care for their patients. As such it is required of a nurse to develop the personal traits of caring as part of their training. Patient care requires more than just the medical aspects in nursing. Most patients exhibit anxiety particularly in regards to their health conditions, proposed treatment procedures such as surgery or even on the prospects of their recovery. Such fear and anxiety has a huge physiological impact on their recovery (Mcphail & Hemsey, 2015). Moreover, the fear and anxiety may cause other mental health complications. As such, a caring nurse helps the patient to overcome such fears and hence support the process of healing.
My personal definition of care is the ability and practice of showing empathy and treating other people in a way that is considerate of their situations and pain. When nurses demonstrate such empathy and consideration, they are able to foster an environment of collaboration between the patient and the nurse.
