Value-based care is a healthcare delivery model in which providers, including hospitals and physicians, are paid on the basis of patient health outcomes

Value-based care is a healthcare delivery model in which providers, including hospitals and physicians, are paid on the basis of patient health outcomes. Value-based care includes three key goals: improved population health, increased patient satisfaction, and reduced cost. Each of these goals affects the stakeholders differently. For example, value-based care aims to lower costs across the board, which would result in the insurance companies having to pay lower reimbursements. If insurance companies incur lower costs, they are less likely to raise premiums and deductibles.

Before you begin working on the assignment, review the module learning resources. These resources will help you with additional guidance to complete this assignment.

In this assignment, you will choose two acute care hospitals in your state. Do not select critical access hospitals for comparative analysis. Because critical access hospitals are exempted from sharing information with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), you may not get enough information about these hospitals for comparison. You will compare the selected hospitals on the basis of various quality metrics defined by the CMS. Then, you will conduct a comparative analysis of both the hospitals using specific quality metrics: patient survey ratings, complications, and death rates and unplanned hospital visits. This analysis will help you understand how value-based care and quality metrics in healthcare impact stakeholders. Also, this assignment will help you understand how stakeholders influence the decision-making process in healthcare.

Prompt

To complete this assignment, you will submit an analysis report that includes the comparative analysis of two chosen hospitals. In this assignment, you will choose two acute care hospitals from your state and conduct a comparative analysis. Use module resources to understand how to conduct the comparative analysis on selected hospitals. You will use quality metrics and national benchmarks defined by the CMS. You will then create an analysis report that includes the comparative table and a summary of your analysis to demonstrate your findings.

You must cite at least three sources to support your claims. For additional help with completing this assignment, refer to the Shapiro Library Guide: Nursing – Graduate item in the Start Here module. You may also use the Online Writing Center, located in the Academic Support module.

Specifically, you must address the following rubric criteria:

  1. Selection of Hospitals: Justify your selection of two acute care hospitals for comparative analysis.
  2. Analysis of Patient Survey Ratings: Analyze the comparative performance of selected hospitals pertaining to patient survey ratings quality metrics. Consider the following questions in your response:
    1. How does the patient survey quality metric impact the government and private insurance reimbursement?
    2. Why is the patient survey one of the essential quality metrics for value-based care?
    3. Did underserved/vulnerable populations participate in the patient survey? Why is their inclusion essential?
  3. Analysis of Complication and Death Rates: Analyze the comparative performance of selected hospitals pertaining to complication and death rate quality metrics. Consider the following questions in your response:
    1. How do complication and death rate quality metrics impact the government and private insurance reimbursement?
    2. How do the complication and death rates impact value-based care?
  4. Analysis of Unplanned Hospital Visit Ratings: Analyze the comparative performance of selected hospitals pertaining to the unplanned hospital visits quality metric. Consider the following questions in your response:
    1. How does the unplanned hospital visits quality metric impact the government and private insurance reimbursement?
    2. What does the unplanned hospital visits quality metric indicate about value-based care?
  5. Summary of Analysis: Summarize your findings from your comparative analysis of the two hospitals. Include the national benchmarks for the quality metrics you have used for your analyses. Consider the following questions in your response:
    1. How do value-based care quality metrics impact healthcare stakeholders such as insurance providers, hospitals, and patients?
    2. Do the mentioned three quality metrics or any other quality metrics defined by the CMS include underserved/vulnerable populations’ challenges related to value-based care?

What to Submit

Your submission should be a 2- to 3-page Word document. You must also include an APA-style title page. Use 12-point Times New Roman font, double spacing, and 1-inch margins. Sources should be cited according to APA style

Action plan based on the work of Wadsworth (2011) on disseminating results

Dissemination Action Plan- The research process is cyclical. The assessment tasks in this subject reflect this cycle. In Assessment 1
you compiled an Annotated Bibliography to build your understanding of existing studies in the area in which you were planning to focus your
research. In Assessment 2 you used that understanding, with other learnings from the subject and other sources, to prepare a Research
Proposal outlining the details of a particular study.

Executing the research study outlined in the proposal, analyzing the data, and presenting a report on the findings constitute the next stage of the research cycle in the real world.
However, conducting research is a difficult and time-consuming procedure that is outside the purview of this introductory subject, as has been observed throughout the semester.
The distribution of results is a crucial component of the post-research portion of the cycle, therefore Assessment 3 instead of addressing the conduct of the research study, does so.
You will create an action plan for this assessment exercise based on Wadsworth’s (2011) work on optimizing the effect of research and distributing findings (see pages 455–461 in your textbook for more information).
Obviously, you have not carried out any research, so you have no results to report. The action plan is a general outline of how you would
disseminate the results of the study you outlined in your Research Proposal (Assessment 2), if you had carried it out. You will draw on the
content of the Moodle pages, textbook, articles and other appropriate sources to complete this task.
Your research dissemination action plan must be presented in full sentences-not dot points – and paragraphs in essay form. You may have
subheadings within your essay.
Your plan must include;
a brief description of the study outlined in the Research Proposal
a description of what you want to achieve (your objective/s) by dissemination of your results, e.g. influencing policy and/or practice,
and/or an explanation of why this is necessary/desirable
an explanation of who (individuals and/organisations) you will inform about your research and why you will do this (Think in terms of
ethical reasons and how these people/organisations can help in the process of getting action taken as the result of you research)
a detailed description of when and how (contents and the way they will be presented) you will disseminate your findings in each of the
following formats;
I. a formal report (similar to the
NSW Carers Survey and the
NDIS Study)
II. a meeting with colleagues
III. a conference
An appendix to your plan, with one data gathering instrument you would have used in your proposed study if you had carried it out. e.g.

Powered hierarchies based on social difference have existed long before industrial capitalism

Write a 5-7 page paper (double spaced, 12 point font, standard margins) on one of the following topics. Your title page and bibliography (and any other pages that are not writing) do not count towards the page count. Please cite all your sources, with an accepted citational standard of your choice. For sources, you may only use:

  • Readings assigned in class.
  • Other writing by authors assigned in class.
  • Sources which address the exact same topic as readings assigned in class (e.g. West African deindustrialization; gender roles in Iriquois Confederacy, etc.).

Powered hierarchies based on social difference have existed long before industrial capitalism. However, these systems have interacted with industrial capitalism in particular ways – at times entrenching their power and at other times shifting that power. Using examples, as well as theory, from class and from the readings, trace how industrial capitalism has interacted with racism and white supremacy; with patriarchy; and with the division between the Global North and Global South. How has capitalism exacerbated some of the power differentials between groups, and how has it shifted that power over time?

Inc. is a fast-casual restaurant chain specializing in noodle-based dishes

Purpose

This assignment is intended to help you learn how to apply statistical methods when analyzing operational data, evaluating the performance of current marketing strategies, and recommending actionable business decisions. This is an opportunity to build critical-thinking and problem-solving skills within the context of data analysis and interpretation. You’ll gain a first-hand understanding of how data analytics supports decision-making and adds value to an organization.

Scenario:

Pastas R Us, Inc. is a fast-casual restaurant chain specializing in noodle-based dishes, soups, and salads. Since its inception, the business development team has favored opening new restaurants in areas (within a 3-mile radius) that satisfy the following demographic conditions:

  • Median age between 25 – 45 years old
  • Household median income above national average
  • At least 15% college educated adult population

Last year, the marketing department rolled out a Loyalty Card strategy to increase sales. Under this program, customers present their Loyalty Card when paying for their orders and receive some free food after making 10 purchases.

The company has collected data from its 74 restaurants to track important variables such as average sales per customer, year-on-year sales growth, sales per sq. ft., Loyalty Card usage as a percentage of sales, and others. A key metric of financial performance in the restaurant industry is annual sales per sq. ft. For example, if a 1200 sq. ft. restaurant recorded $2 million in sales last year, then it sold $1,667 per sq. ft.

Executive management wants to know whether the current expansion criteria can be improved. They want to evaluate the effectiveness of the Loyalty Card marketing strategy and identify feasible, actionable opportunities for improvement. As a member of the analytics department, you’ve been assigned the responsibility of conducting a thorough statistical analysis of the company’s available database to answer executive management’s questions.

Report:

Write a 750-word statistical report that includes the following sections:

  • Section 1: Scope and descriptive statistics
  • Section 2: Analysis
  • Section 3: Recommendations and Implementation

Section 1 – Scope and descriptive statistics

  • State the report’s objective.
  • Discuss the nature of the current database. What variables were analyzed?
  • Summarize your descriptive statistics findings from Excel. Use a table and insert appropriate graphs.

Section 2 – Analysis

  • Using Excel, create scatter plots and display the regression equations for the following pairs of variables:
  • “BachDeg%” versus “Sales/SqFt”
  • “MedIncome” versus “Sales/SqFt”
  • “MedAge” versus “Sales/SqFt”
  • “LoyaltyCard(%)” versus “SalesGrowth(%)”
  • In your report, include the scatter plots. For each scatter plot, designate the type of relationship observed (increasing/positive, decreasing/negative, or no relationship) and determine what you can conclude from these relationships.

Section 3: Recommendations and implementation

  • Based on your findings above, assess which expansion criteria seem to be more effective. Could any expansion criterion be changed or eliminated? If so, which one and why?
  • Based on your findings above, does it appear as if the Loyalty Card is positively correlated with sales growth? Would you recommend changing this marketing strategy?
  • Based on your previous findings, recommend marketing positioning that targets a specific demographic. (Hint: Are younger people patronizing the restaurants more than older people?)
  • Indicate what information should be collected to track and evaluate the effectiveness of your recommendations. How can this data be collected? (Hint: Would you use survey/samples or census?)

Cite American based references as this is an American company

Format your citations according to APA guidelines

Evidence-based proposal to support the need for a nurse informaticist in an organization who would focus on improving health care outcomes

Write a 4-5 page evidence-based proposal to support the need for a nurse informaticist in an organization who would focus on improving health care outcomes.

Introduction

As you begin to prepare this assessment, you are encouraged to complete the Team Perspectives of the Nurse Informaticist activity. Completion of this will help you succeed with the assessment as you explore the nurse informaticist’s role from the different perspectives of the health care team. Completing activities is also a way to demonstrate engagement.

Nurses at the baccalaureate level in all practice areas are involved in nursing informatics through interaction with information management and patient care technologies. Nurses must not only demonstrate knowledge of and skills in health information and patient care technologies, but also how to use these tools at the bedside and organizational levels. Moreover, nurses need to recognize how information gathered from various health information sources can impact decision making at the national and state regulatory levels.

Scenario

For this assessment, assume you are a nurse attending a meeting of your state’s nurses association. A nurse informaticist conducted a presentation on her role and its impact on positive patient and organizational outcomes in her workplace. You realize that your organization is undergoing many technological changes. You believe this type of role could provide many benefits to your organization.

You decide to pursue proposing a nurse informaticist role in your organization. You speak to your chief nursing officer (CNO) and human resources (HR) manager, who ask you to prepare a 4–5 page evidence-based proposal to support the new role. In this way, they can make an informed decision as to whether the addition of such a role could justify the return on investment (ROI). They need your proposal before an upcoming fiscal meeting. This is not an essay, but instead, it is a proposal to create a new Nurse Informaticist position.

One important part of this assessment is the justification of the need for a nurse informaticist in a health care organization and references from relevant and timely scholarly or professional resources to support the justification for creating this nurse informaticist position. The term justify means to show or prove that the nurse informaticist position brings value to the organization. This justification must include evidence from the literature to support that this position will provide a return on investment for the organization.

Preparation

To successfully prepare for this assessment, you will need to complete these preparatory activities:

· Review assessment resources and activities.

. Conduct independent research on the nursing knowledge and skills necessary to interact with health information and patient care technology.

. Focus your research on current resources available through peer-reviewed articles, professional websites, government websites, professional blogs, wikis, job boards, and so on.

· Consult the  BSN Program Library Research Guide  for help in identifying scholarly and authoritative sources.

· Interview peers in your network who are considered information technology experts.

. Ask them about how information technology advances are impacting patient care at the bedside, at the organizational level, and beyond.

Proposal Format

The chief nursing officer (CNO) and human resources (HR) manager have asked you to include the following headings in your proposal and to be sure to address the bullets following each heading:

Nursing Informatics and the Nurse Informaticist

· What is nursing informatics?

· What is the role of the nurse informaticist?

Nurse Informaticists and Other Health Care Organizations

· What is the experience of other health care organizations with nurse informaticists?

· How do these nurse informaticists interact with the rest of the nursing staff and the interdisciplinary team?

IMPACT OF FULL NURSE ENGAGEMENT IN HEALTH CARE TECHNOLOGY

· How does fully engaging nurses in health care technology impact:

. Patient care?

. Protected health information (security, privacy, and confidentiality)?

. In this section, you will explain evidence-based strategies that the nurse informaticist and interdisciplinary team can use to effectively manage patients’ protected health information, particularly privacy, security, and confidentiality. Evidence-based means that they are supported by evidence from scholarly sources.

· Workflow?

· Costs and return on investment?

Opportunities and Challenges

· What are the opportunities and challenges for nurses and the interdisciplinary team with the addition of a nurse informaticist role?

. How can the interdisciplinary team collaborate to improve quality care outcomes through technology?

Summary of Recommendations

· What are 3–4 key takeaways from your proposal about the recommended nurse informaticist role that you want the CNO and the HR manager to remember?

. This is the section where the justification for the implementation of the nursing informaticist role is addressed. Remember to include evidence from the literature to support your recommendation.

Additional Requirements

· Written communication: Ensure written communication is free of errors that detract from the overall message.

· Submission length: 4–5 double-spaced pages, in addition to title and references pages.

· Font: Times New Roman, 12 point.

· Citations and References: Cite a minimum of three current scholarly and/or authoritative sources to support your ideas. In addition, cite a minimum of one current professional blog or website to support your central ideas.  Current means no more than five years old.

· APA formatting: Be sure to follow APA formatting and style guidelines for citations and references. For an APA refresher, consult the  Evidence and APA  page on Campus.

Competencies Measured

By successfully completing this assessment, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the following course competencies and scoring guide criteria:

· Competency 1: Describe nurses’ and the interdisciplinary team’s role in informatics with a focus on electronic health information and patient care technology to support decision making.

. Define nursing informatics and the role of the nurse informaticist.

. Explain how the nurse collaborates with the interdisciplinary team, including technologists, to improve the quality of patient care.

. Justify the need for a nurse informaticist in a health care organization.

· Competency 2: Implement evidence-based strategies to effectively manage protected health information.

. Explain evidence-based strategies that the nurse and interdisciplinary team can use to effectively manage patients’ protected health information (privacy, security, and confidentiality).

· Competency 5: Apply professional, scholarly communication to facilitate use of health information and patient care technologies.

. Follow APA style and formatting guidelines for citations and references.

. Create a clear, well-organized, and professional proposal that is generally free from errors in grammar, punctuation, and spelling

Values Based Leadership

1) Watch the video: Values Based Leadership. Please discuss your impressions of the video (250 Words)

2) After watching the video, Please discuss your impressions of the video. Then interact with two of your classmates on why with agree with their response from the video. (125 Words Each)

Classmate 1 Response (JM) (125 Words)

After watching this video, I’m very interested to see how Mr Kraemer fleshes out these four principles for leadership in his book. Immediately I am intrigued by the emphasis he places on self-development above the skill of influencing others. One might assume that a leadership coach would teach you the skills necessary to manipulate a group of individuals to accomplish your goals. Instead, he barely mentions the impact you will make on others, and focuses on internal factors for success. His principles seem to encourages you to lead yourself so that you can then lead others.

His final point of “Genuine Humility” stood out to me most of all. If we do not recognize the people and circumstances that lead to our current success, how then can we appreciate and utilize our current circumstances and teammates for further success? How you see others says a lot about yourself, and even more about your ability to lead.

Classmates 2 Response (LL)  (125 Words)

I really liked this video and had some thoughts about each of his four points:

Self-Reflection — I think this is very important to leadership, as it helps us to understand who we are and also how we can improve. This comes to me very naturally. People often tell me that I’m a very reflective person, and since I do a lot of it already, I can definitely see it’s value to leadership.

Balance — This is something I try to keep in all areas of my life, but it’s been especially valuable in ministry, although I’ve never really thought about it in these terms until he explained it. There are many people in the church who like to voice strong opinions, and I just have to smile and nod without really speaking because, if I disagree, it could damage my relationship with that person, or if I agree, it could damage my relationship with someone else. When I do have to take a stand or speak up about an issue, I do my best to address all sides fairly. Otherwise, it will negatively affect my influence.

Self-Confidence — If I’m being honest, this is where I struggle. I’m told that I have good instincts and usually do/say the right thing, but I have never been particularly confident in what I do/say. This has gotten better with experience, especially after having been told that I have good instincts, but I still struggle a lot with this.

Humility — I really appreciated what he said about this one. Humility is not about thinking less of yourself; you should have an appropriate and accurate understanding of your talents and abilities (this relates back to self-confidence). But humility is understanding that you did not get to where you are by yourself, but that there are several factors involved. I recently got a new job, but during my search, I was told by many that I had the skills, but the timing was not right, or I just did not fit in with their congregation (being young and single). In fact, when I was offered this job, I was told that everything just lined up–how I fit in and the timing and my skills–so this resonated with my experience

Shoulder tap crime, based on the typical manner a request by a minor for an adult to buy alcohol occurs

https://www.justia.com/criminal/docs/calcrim/2900/2964/

Shoulder Tap Crime

Most states make it a crime to purchase alcohol for a minor, sometimes called the shoulder tap crime, based on the typical manner a request by a minor for an adult to buy alcohol occurs. These crimes generally do not require proof that the defendant knew the person was underage.

·         Should the same strict liability apply to a host of a party that is attended by both adults and minors, where alcohol at the private party is furnished to both?

·         Should a host be able to offer evidence that he reasonably believed the minor was old enough to drink?

·         Would it help your case if the jurisdiction made such a defense available to bars and liquor stores that required buyers to provide proof of age?

·         Use the following case to help guide your analysis:

California Criminal Jury Instructions

Your analysis should be a minimum of two pages in length and follow APA formatting and citation guidelines.

What legal action was taken based on what your state laws say about this case?

A. Summary of the Case
In one or two paragraphs, provide a general overview of the case that serves as a snapshot of what the case is about and how it ended up in your state high court. A summary is using your words to write a brief history of the case. Do not give your opinion or your interpretation but stick to the facts only.
B: Case Outline
Your court case outline should include:
Title: Name of the case
Facts of the case: Provide key facts involving the case.
History of the case: What legal action was taken based on what your state laws say about this case?
Legal questions: What were the legal issues the court had to decide?
Decision or holdings: Did the court decide for the plaintiff or the defendant? Explain the reason behind the decision?
Verdict and opinion (judgement): What were the concurring and dissenting opinions? How many judges decided for the defendant and how many justices decided against the defendant? What was the final verdict from the judge or the jury, if it was a jury trial?
C. Conclusion
What was the resulting impact of the ruling? How did the citizens of your state benefit from it? Was this a good decision?
Writing Requirements (APA format)
The length of your outline will vary. Usually an outline is anywhere from 1-3 pages long. Make sure to write full sentences to explain your case. It is a concise list to be used as a reference for you during the presentation.
Using the outline, you will be describing the court case in your presentation and the scenario around the court case. The use of Wikipedia as a primary source of information is to be avoided – it is not a reliable source of information.
Search for an example of a case outline in the Internet. Without going into much detail at this state, each of the items listed above has a subject sentence with 3-6 bullet points that can help you expand on the topic.
For Week 7, you will be creating a narrated PowerPoint, or a video as approved by your instructor, from this week’s outline.
1-inch margins
Double spaced
12-point Times New Roman font
Title page
References page (minimum of 2 scholarly sources in addition to textbook if cited
