Causes of the Civil War

Instructions

Causes of the Civil War

For more than 160 years, historians have painstakingly searched for the one factor that caused the American Civil War, the event that caused disunion to turn to war. The search is so intense that the American Civil War is one of the most researched events in the history of the United States. Throughout Unit VII, we have seen various events or variables that could be identified as a factor that has set the United States on a path toward the American Civil War. This one factor and its impact will be the focus of our Unit VII assignment.

Assignment Instructions:

After reading the Unit VII Study Guide and Chapter 14, construct an essay that skillfully answers the following prompt:

Select one event from the list below and describe why you believe this single event caused such intense disunion within the United States that the country was placed on a trajectory toward the American Civil War.

The Compromise of 1850

The Kansas-Nebraska Act

Presidential Election of 1856

Dred Scott v. Sandford (1857)

The Lincoln-Douglas Debates

John Brown’s raid on Harpers Ferry

Presidential Election of 1860

Assignment Requirements:

Provide an insightful and thorough overview of the event and clearly describe how it served as a catalyst for the American Civil War.

Because this is an academic research paper, no personal opinions are to be used. Stay focused on the research.

In-text citations and a reference list are required. A title page and abstract are not.

At least two resources from the CSU database collection must be cited within the text of your essay and noted on your reference page.

Peer-reviewed resources are preferred, but are not required.

Academically viable Internet resources are permitted, but are supplemental to the two required resources from the CSU database collection.

Required minimum length: 2 pages

Recommendations for Success:

Do not begin to work on the Unit VII assignment until you have read (in full) the Unit VII Study Guide and read/viewed the assigned Required Unit Resources.

After you have read/reviewed the Unit VII material, carefully review the Unit VII Essay Rubric so that you are aware of how your work will be evaluated.

Recommended electronic databases to use:

America: History and Life

JSTOR

Academic Search Ultimate

Construct what is known as a 3×5 essay. That means you will write a total of five full paragraphs, three of which will be supporting evidence paragraphs focused on one specific supporting point identified by a clear topic sentence. The other two paragraphs will be the introduction, which comes first and will include your thesis statement, and the conclusion, which comes last and will recap all your main points.

Remember the all-important 5 Ws of information; dive into the details to help present strong content. Remember to always incorporate the 5 Ws of research into your writing: who, what, where, when, and why. All of these are needed in each of your five paragraphs.

Organization is important too! Consider that the essay may have the strongest content available, but if its structure or pace is weak, the content is negatively impacted.

To help ensure strong content and strong organization, go through at least five rounds of proofreading and editing your essay after you have put it in its final draft. This will allow you to see glitches and correct them. Give yourself time in between each round of proofreading and editing so that when you come back, you will see new glitches

US Civil War ended was 25 percent later than the year Christopher Columbus set sail from Spain

The year in which the US Civil War ended was 25 percent later than the year Christopher Columbus set sail from Spain. If c represents the year Columbus set sail, we can write the year the Civil War ended as c + 0.25c. Rewrite this expression as a single term.

Rewrite the expression c + 0.25c using fractions instead of decimal numbers.

Rewrite the expression you developed in Part B as a single term with a fractional coefficient.

Are the expressions you developed in Part A and Part C the same? Why or why not?

Christopher Columbus set sail from Spain in 1492. In what year did the Civil War end?

LESSON 12

There are a variety of social issues that social workers address on an individual basis every day. In the last unit, you addressed a “private problem” that could indicate a potential structural issue in the United States. Our next step is to focus on solving that issue.

Use what you’ve read about to further solve the issue you last addressed in your Unit 5.

What public policy would you create to solve that issue? Which framework would you use to address it? How would ensure that the policy is culturally competent?

Are there people who suffer from that issue that may not have their problem solved by that public policy? How would you help those people?

Is there an existing agency that helps this group of people? How could you integrate that group into your solution? (Note: please include a link for the agency you chose in APA format on a reference list at the end of it).

Your response should be a minimum of two pages, but no more than four pages (unless you have instructor approval).

According to the 14th Amendment and the Civil Rights Act of 1964, it is illegal to discriminate based on sex when hiring.

If you have ever been to a Hooters restaurant, you may notice something about their staff.  There are no men working as servers. In fact, Hooters will not ever hire a man to be a server in any of their restaurants. They have been sued more than once for this hiring practice, and in some cases, had to pay out millions of dollars. Yet, Hooters continues to uphold the policy and they continue to stay in business.

According to the 14th Amendment and the Civil Rights Act of 1964, it is illegal to discriminate based on sex when hiring.

In your initial post, answer the following:

1) How is it, then, that Hooters restaurants can choose to ONLY hire women who look a certain way to work as servers in their establishments?

2) Within your initial response, discuss “BFOQ”. What is it and how does it apply to this situation?

NOTE: This is not meant to be an opinion-based initial response. I want you to research this topic and post with an educated answer. You can most definitely share your opinion on this policy in your replies to your classmates. According to the 14th Amendment and the Civil Rights Act of 1964, it is illegal to discriminate based on sex when hiring.

finite element method for civil engineering

You are a structural engineer working in a housing project that is building three storey bungalow units. A typical main frame ABCDEFGH that the architect is proposing is provided in FIGURE Q1. The architect would like to keep the structural elements to a minimum and hence has proposed that it must consist of six columns (AB, BC, CD, EF, FG and GH) of equal length and three beams (BG, CF and DE), also of equal length. The height of the columns, LCC = 3.05 m, the length of the beams, LBB = 5.4m, factored imposed load of FBG kN/m = 3.25 on beam BG, factored imposed load of FCF,DE kN/m = 4.3 on beams CF and DE and a point load of X kN = -55.0  due to wind at beam column junctions B, C and D. As it is easiest to transport to the site, the architect decided to construct the frame from steel and want to fabricate all connections as fixed connections.

1. Your technical director, who believes in optimisation of structures for weight (least material), has asked you to size all of the members of the frame such that no members exceed their yield stress while minimizing the weight of the whole structure. She asked you to use the simple finite element program that you use in the office. Use necessary simplifications backed by solid reasoning and choose only standard steel cross-sections.

2. While you are working on this project at home, your father, who is a retired earthquake specialist, is concerned that you are not considering any dynamic loading. To allay these fears, you have decided to perform a dynamic analysis, the first step of which you have decided will be the computation of mode shapes and their associated frequencies. Compute the frequencies of the first 5 mode shapes and their associated mode shapes by modifying the simple program from QUESTION 1.

3. Once you presented your initial design of the frame, a senior engineer has raised some concerns about the simple beam column finite element solution that you have used. With justification, evaluate the validity of the solution adopted with respect to the structural stability, material behaviour and magnitude of the final deflections.

Civil and alternative dispute resolution (ADR) process

Case Analysis

In light of your understanding of the civil and alternative dispute resolution (ADR) process, consider the following scenario:

Pete was seriously injured when the four-wheeled all-terrain vehicle (ATV) he was driving through the trails behind his house rolled over. As a result of his injuries, Pete is unable to work and has incurred $75,000 in medical bills. Pete has filed a lawsuit against the ATV manufacturer to receive compensation for the financial harm resulting from his injuries. Pete claims that the manufacturer defectively designed the ATV, causing it to have a tendency to roll over on rough terrain.

The ATV manufacturer claims that the ATV is not defectively designed and that the rollover was caused by Pete driving at an excessive rate of speed around a corner.

Consider the steps in civil litigation and ADR, and assess the factors that Pete and the ATV manufacturer will consider when deciding whether they should settle this lawsuit. If you were Pete’s lawyer, what resolution would you advise? Be sure to consider the primary forms of ADR and all ADR factors described in the lesson and textbook.

Finally, research and select at least one case from an outside source to support your resolution to the ATV case. Include an introduction in your paper.

Your answer must be at least two pages in length. Adhere to APA Style when creating citations and references for this assignment. APA formatting, however, is not necessary. See Civil and alternative dispute resolution

Assignment

Introduction

After getting involved in an accident while driving a four-wheeled all-terrain vehicle (ATV) in his backyard, Pete claimed that ATV manufacturer defectively designed the vehicle and it led to roll over on rough terrain. Pete the plaintiff was therefore seeking for a compensation from ATV manufacturer for the cost he incurred as medical bill and injuries he sustained, which made him unable to carry out his normal duties. The defendant responded to the claims that ATV was not defectively designed and the roll over was attributed to excessive rate of speed around the corner. To effectively analyze this case, it is important to understand the facts.

While making the determination of this case, there are several factors that courts should consider about Pete and ATV manufacturer. One key factor that court need to consider is whether the plaintiff have presented enough evidence to prove that the accident indeed occurred as a result of ATV defective designs(Kubasek, et al., 2016). Pete also should consider whether the case can stand the threshold of requirements, ripeness, and justifiable controversy. These are the facts that determines whether the case could come before the judges in the court of law.             On whether the ATV manufacturer should settle the dispute or not, the company should establish whether there is legitimacy in the…………………………………………………………………………………………………

The civil engineering profession consists of a community of professional designers of different types of structures and infrastructure that are physically developed for human use.

write an article on Discipline Investigation. It needs to be at least 1250 words. The civil engineering profession consists of a community of professional designers of different types of structures and infrastructure that are physically developed for human use. The nature of the structures and infrastructure designed by the civil engineering fraternity includes roads, buildings, bridges, dams and ware ways, city infrastructure such as sewerage systems, railroads, and railways, canals as well as irrigation systems for agriculture. Simply put, therefore, civil engineering is a profession that helps man to shape the environment, in order to suit his needs (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, n.p.).

Thus, the purpose of the interview with a senior professional in the field of civil engineering was to gain deeper insights into the requirements of entry into the field, the nature of work and tasks performed by civil engineers under different areas of specialization of the profession, and how to cope in their work environment. Following the interview, I was able to get valuable information regarding the career qualification for civil engineers, the applicable career paths, and the communication skill necessary for successful civil engineers. Thus, this report gives a summary of the civil engineering discipline as generated from the interview. The report will present the background of the interviewee, the current job position, the roles and responsibilities involved in the job position, and the communication skills necessary for the civil engineering work environment. The summary of the learning points obtained from the interview will be presented in the conclusions.

Interview summary

Background and career path

My expectation from the research was that I would be able to find a professional civil engineer who has had more than 10 years of experience in the field, and who has served in different areas of specialization of the profession, thus be able to gather varied nature of experiences regarding this field. It was also my expectation that I would be able to find an easy-going interview subject, who will not limit the nature of the information given as related to this discipline but is comfortable divulging a wide range of information related to both education and professional background.
