Content – Criteria:

Each student will introduce and explore BPS and CRSJ as the foundation for examining the selected disorder/topic. Give an understanding, analysis, and critical evaluation of each factor (a minimum of 8 factors are expected for an average grade for the entire paper, a total of 12 factors would be beneficial), building a therapeutic relationship, a brief discussion of ethical considerations or concerns, your personal role as a therapist, and conceptualization (be sure to develop a framework and conceptualize how you would help the client using a BPS/CRSJ approach, and a path toward assessment, (goals and treatment plan are not a part of this assignment).

The focus of the paper should be on the application of BPS and CRSJ in order to explore the disorder/topic in preparation or progress toward treatment. You do not need to consider a treatment plan for this disorder/topic as this is not expected at this level. The first step is to assess and explore layers that would impact the client and clinical process (i.e., layers outlined in BPS/CRSJ). In future courses, skills and competencies will be added to fully create the treatment plans and intervention. Discuss the importance of developing the therapeutic relationship and your role as a therapist.

Please use APA 7th edition in writing your paper including headings in your paper. Subheadings should be included. Use the provided rubric to guide the outline of the paper.

Length:

Your Final Paper should be between 10 – 12 double-spaced pages excluding title page and reference pages. A Word Document is required for this paper, not a pdf. The course instructor will not read theoretical content after page 12. This paper does not require an abstract, a table of contents, or an appendix.

You are welcome to draw predominantly from the course reading materials to complete this assignment. However, you must have at least five (5) additional current (last ten years), peer-reviewed resources (from outside the course) to ensure adequate coverage of the topic. Remember to cite original sources unless they are not accessible in the Yorkville library.

importance of “hardening” the PCS client workstations and servers

You provide a lecture to the working group regarding the importance of security education, awareness, and training due to the oft-quoted security maxim that users/humans are the weakest link in the security chain. While making users aware of security risks and training them how to protect company assets will reduce risk, it is important to put technical controls in place to protect the operating systems and applications that employees use every day.

Discuss the importance of “hardening” the PCS client workstations and servers. Make recommendations for operating system hardening options and describe how these are related to the concept of “system-specific policies” discussed earlier in the course. One of the working group members blurts out that antivirus protection is a waste of computing resources and patching applications takes too much time. Be sure to address these two concepts in your initial thread. Include at least one research reference and associated in-text citation using APA standards. In your replies to your peers further, discuss the importance of software security.

Terrence is considering next steps for a client, Angela, who has come for therapy at the family counseling center where he works.

Introduction

Consider the following scenario:

Terrence is considering next steps for a client, Angela, who has come for therapy at the family counseling center where he works. When Angela scheduled her appointment on the telephone, she had described her concerns with marital difficulties, insomnia, and depression. During her first session, however, Terrence noticed that Angela had a very nervous demeanor, picked at her skin constantly, and had a rasping cough. When Terrence asked Angela about her employment, she admitted that she had lost her job and that her husband was angry about it. She said she was afraid her husband was on the brink of becoming abusive.

Terrence is not sure what to do first. He suspects Angela might have a substance addiction, but clearly she has several interlocking problems, and many are urgent. Should Terrence administer a screening for addiction or a more general clinical assessment? If he does decide to administer an addictions assessment, which of the many that are available should he choose and why?

This week, you differentiate between the use of addictions assessment tools and clinical assessment tools and review several assessment tools in order to evaluate one of them.

Objectives

Students will:

  • Differentiate between the use of addictions assessment tools and clinical assessment tools
  • Critique an addictions assessment tool

Week 4 Discussion post;

Addictions Screening and Assessment Tools Versus Clinical Assessments

A client is typically referred to an addiction professional with myriad problems because addictions either directly or indirectly cause the problems, or the addiction is a byproduct of the problem. If clinical assessments provide an overview of a client’s background and situation, is a specific addictions assessment necessary? If an addictions assessment shows a client with depression and anxiety, is a clinical assessment necessary?

For this Discussion, you consider differences between use of addictions assessment tools and clinical assessment tools and the rationale behind each approach.

To prepare:

Review the Learning Resources, particularly the following articles:

  • “Brief Intervention in College Settings”
  • “Assessing Addiction: Concepts and Instruments”

Post by Day 4 your response to the following:

How might the use of addictions assessment tools differ from the use of clinical assessment tools? Include in your response references to unique administration and client considerations.

Be specific and use the week’s Learning Resources in your response.

Psychology: Addictions Screening and Assessment Tools versus Clinical Assessments

(Course Instructor)

(University Affiliation)

(Student’s Name)

January 27th 2016.

How the Use of Addictions Assessment Tools May Differ From the Use of Clinical Assessment Tools

An effective assessment substance abuse disorder can determine the success or failure of a medical intervention that is designed for a client. Moreover, making an effective assessment is important in determining the need and the type of adjunctive services for a client (Samet, Waxman, Hatzenbuehler, &Hasin, 2007). During the process of client assessment for a particular disorder, an assessment professional often uses assessment instruments in order to perform an effective disorder assessment. Among the assessment tools are the clinical and addiction assessment tools.

The clinical assessment tools and the addiction assessment tools differ in a number of ways. First, the clinical assessment tools are used for assessment of substance abuse disorders, which typically involve structured interviews and written questionnaires. After the assessment, the clinician can determine the best intervention for a particular patient disorder. Although the addiction assessment tools employ interviews in a addiction assessment, the tools provides a rating mechanism from which a clinician can use to classify the addiction levels of the patient based on a chosen scale, for example the Diagnostic Manual for Mental Disorders (DSM-IV). Moreover, the clinical assessment tools provide an analysis of the client disorder, while neglecting the impact of the disorder on the patient life. For example, in the analysis for a patient with addiction for a substance, the use of addiction assessment tools may reveal the impact of addiction on job and family relationships. The other ways in which the addiction assessment and disorder assessment tools differ is the length of administration. The addiction assessment tools have specific duration from which they are administered, whereas clinical assessment……………

As the prison warden, it is my client’s duty and responsibility to manage and oversee all activities within the correctional facility to ensure the safety of staff and proper treatment of the inmates

As the prison warden, it is my client’s duty and responsibility to manage and oversee all activities within the correctional facility to ensure the safety of staff and proper treatment of the inmates. My client stands behind his decision in locking down the prison due to a severe prison fight. This fight resulted in many injuries to his security guard’s and the death of two inmates. As the warden, he is allowed to established punishment within the prison. Punishment includes solitary confinement, removal of good behavior time, confiscation of items or transfer inmates to another prison. My client’s sole purpose in putting all inmates in solitary confinement are for protective custody measures. This is to protect inmates from each other and keep the guards safe while investigating the recent incidents per the Standard 23-5.2 Prevention and Investigation of Violence (American Bar Association, n.d.). Anyone could have been involved in this fight and not physically be in attendance for it to occur. He must consider the severity of some inmate’s criminal history and connections with the inmates that are deceased. Inmate Johnny may be on good behavior and serving his time well but the warden is not purposefully violating his Eighth Amendment rights. Every prisoner is entitled to their rights but his actions nor cruel or unusual, are merely to segregate all personnel for the protection of the facility as a whole while investigating the violent act (Legal Information Institute, n.d.). The warden ensures his inmates rights are protected under the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment against discrimination of unequal treatment based on race, sex, religion, age, national origin, and creed (HG.org, 2020). However, this does not mean he does not apply appropriate punishment measures.

The Prison has a zero-tolerance fight policy and when inmates break the rules, the warden must make extreme measures to protect others

Training Program: Design full a 12-week periodized training program for the client described in the Client Profile. Be very specific as you design the training program. This is an opportunity for you to demonstrate your full comprehension of the information and concepts discussed throughout the course. List the types of exercise, duration, sets, reps, rest intervals, and so on.

Include the following in your case study submission:

  • A description of your professional responsibilities as discussed in the stages of the drawing-in process (Unit 12)
  • Discussion of any fitness tests, methods of evaluation, and data collection used to assess and evaluate the client’s needs
  • Specific conditions that you have identified in the client profile
  • A fully detailed 12-week comprehensive and periodized training program including specific exercises, sets, repetitions, suggested rest times, etc. Use an integrated approach in your program recommendations.
  • Specific and detailed nutritional strategies and an explanation as to how the strategies will assist the client in meeting energy needs
  • Explanation for your chosen assessment, programming, and nutritional recommendations. (Be sure to reference course concepts when discussing rationale for your recommendations.

Keep in mind that a client should be able to take your program and put it into practice without having to contact you to clarify what you intended by your recommendations or to explain parts of your program.

Don’t forget your explanation for WHY you listed and recommended what you did. Reference the concepts and theories covered in the course. Be sure to address why the program and exercises recommended are appropriate for the specific client given the clientÕs history, current abilities, and intended goal(s). For example: if you are developing a program for a beginner client without any resistance training experience, explain how your program addresses the lack of experience, initial need for foundational development, process by which you would safely progress the client, etc. Tying your program to course concepts is a critical component of your case study.

Review the Client Profile below.
