Is this issue a recent issue or did a specific event contribute to more stressful work environments (i.e. Financial Collapse, Great Depression)? Additionally, as you consider the sociopolitical aspects, consider the following questions. Does the challenge impact specific industries, cultures, or occupations more than others? Is this a global, regional, or national issue? Be sure to cite your sources as you incorporate these insights from the research.

Historical Context

More is needed for the historical context is to show how over time this challenge initiated and evolved to being an issue today. For example if you were focused on climate change you would be able to trace back to 1800s, human activities became the main driver of climate change, primarily due to the burning of fossil fuels (like coal, oil, and gas)…in 19XX the auto industry added to the emissions issue, 19XX when more factories were being built, 20XX presented a rise in housing developments; cutting down forests to create new homes or commercial properties, or for other reasons.

That historical context is needed to show a longitudinal advancement of the issue over the course of time. Having multiple instances/dates in history help tie the cause and effect in a way that helps to explain why your topic is so important to your audience.

Develop a case study on the leadership demonstrated by a hospitality organisation in relation to one (1) of the following 4 global hospitality leadership situations:

1.1. Explain the area of discussion you have chosen (ethics, sustainability, employee relations, cultural diversity) – why is this an important area for global hospitality?
1.2. Identify and briefly discuss the hotel leader/brand or other hospitality organisation that has been a leader in this area.
1.3. Why are they a leader in this area – what specific initiatives have been developed and implemented in relation to the situation?
1.4. How have they been publicly recognised in relation to this situation? (for example, have they won awards, peer praise, industry recognition etc?)
2. Leadership Case Study

• Ensure your research is referenced effectively and correctly (see below).
• Write in the context of the global hospitality industry.
• Make sure that you understand the topic and focus on the topic – do not drift into irrelevant or unnecessary content. If you do not understand the topic, ask your Learning Facilitator.
• Follow a standard report format (see below).
• The submission will be assessed according to the quality and depth of thought, relevance and how effectively you have applied the subject material and theories to the case study, rather than testing how much you can remember and how theoretically correct it is. Refer to the marking criteria (see rubrics and the end of this document) before submitting, and conduct a self-evaluation.
• Stay within the maximum word count of 1,500 words +/- 10% (excluding the Table of Contents, Reference List and Appendices).
Task Instructions
Layout and Presentation
Layout and Presentation of your document is as important as your content. Your assessment is designed to demonstrate your understanding of a certain topic, so it is important to ensure that the layout does not compromise this.
The format is report not essay – and this forms part of your grading. Therefore, students are discouraged from writing lengthy verbose sentences displayed in long chunky paragraphs. Rather students are encouraged to follow the suggested Table of Contents and apply additional formatting mechanisms, (in addition to those outlined in the Torrens/BMIHMS Page Formatting Guide) which reduce wordiness and increase the readability of the content and that are consistent with report writing.
Referencing
Blogs, unauthorised biographies, promotional material, and sensational content must be excluded from the case study report. Students must fully reference all sources of information with in-text citations and a Reference List. A minimum of six (6) academic or recognised industry references are required.
Torrens University Australia uses the APA 7th edition referencing style, and all referencing (both in-text referencing and the Reference List) will be graded according to the APA Academic Writing Guide which can be found on Blackboard. Please note: formal academic referencing will be strictly enforced at Torrens University Australia and Blue Mountains International Hotel Management School and any suspected breaches will be formally reported.
Submission Instructions
• To be submitted via Blackboard in as a word document – submissions sent by email directly to the Learning Facilitator will not be accepted for grading and returned to Student.
• Standard Torrens University Australia penalties will apply for late submissions, equivalent to 10% of the total assessment marks for each day the submission is late.

1. Read the following scenario and review simulated workplace information in Appendix 1 including the sustainability policy in Appendix 2 and legislative requirements therein and define the scope of sustainability policy for Australian Hardware.
2. Determine and write down what information and the sources of information you need to plan and develop sustainability policy.
3. Identify the relevant stakeholders that you need to consult as a key part of the policy development process and develop a stakeholder consultation plan (Use appendix 3 format).
4. Identify the areas of workplace operation and resource use for sustainable approach. Identify at least five areas to focus sustainability on.
5. Make your recommendations for policy options based on likely effectiveness, timeframes and cost of implementation.
6. Develop policy that reflects the organisation’s commitment to sustainability as an integral part of business planning and as a business opportunity.
7. Develop appropriate methods of implementation including, outcomes expected and performance indicators for implementation of sustainability policy and procedure.
8. Develop strategies to implement for continuous improvement in resource efficiency of the store.
9. Establish a good recording system to track continuous improvements in sustainability approaches and assign responsibility to managers.
10. Role-play activity
After you have developed and implemented above activities and using the solutions you have developed, you are required to meet with key stakeholders (other managers of the store). organise at least two of fellow trainees as assessor agrees) and the CEO (Your Assessor) to perform the following role-play activities:
a. Review the sustainability goals of your organisation and the policy scope and its implementation including documented outcomes.
b. Provide feedback to key personnel and stakeholders about sustainability policy implementation.
c. Promote your sustainability policy to stakeholders discussing the expected outcomes.
d. Communicate procedures to help implement the workplace sustainability policy.
e. Discuss and find out the achievement of the policy outcome based on the successes and failures of implementation.

The scope of this policy covers all employees and contractors of Australian Hardware in ensuring that sustainable practices are adopted and maintained at the Wollongong Store.
Responsibility
Responsibility for the implementation of this policy rests with employees and management of Australian Hardware.
The partners and business owners are responsible for:
• following and improving the implementation of the sustainability plan and sustainability principles
• the effective implementation and regular review of sustainability procedures, including yearly environmental audit
