stage in Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs

1. Understanding Maslow’s Need Theory.

Select five (5) ads, one for each c. Identify which of the motivational needs the advertiser is appealing to when they created the advertisement. (Make sure to attach a copy of the ad you are analyzing.)

A. Physiological (Basic physical needs: food, water, shelter)

B. Safety/Security (How we protect what is important.)

C. Social (Perhaps the easiest category)

D. Esteem (Providing the opportunity to feel good about ourselves)

F. Self-Actualization (Making the world a better place)

Be sure to read this section of your text. It will help you in identifying the five stages. Make sure that you provide a two paragraph analysis (this will allow for adequate detail in your response) of why the ad you selected reflects the particular need identified in Maslow’s Hierarchy.

2. Find print ads that illustrate the following categories: family influence, social class and a specific subculture. Then describe the component of the ad that stressed that specific influence. Make sure to include the ad and remember I can see the ad, I don’t need you to describe it. I want to know what made it fall into that particular category. An easy way to answer these questions is to define the term and indicate why the ads fall  into that category. Be sure to include at least one or two well written paragraphs to justify your response. Remember I am looking for “print” ads not You Tube links

Each of the five stages of the pyramid are the needs each human being strive to achieve in life. For example, at the lowest level of the pyramid is the biological and physiological needs which is the basic needs of life(Maslow, 1969). I consider myself lucky because I can afford at least three meals a day, have a house to live, drink and breath clean air and a girl friend to satisfy conjugal needs. Since I can afford to satisfy my biological and physiological needs, the second level which is safety needs is not a problem. This is because I live in a house where security is good and neighborhood which is stable. People observe law and order exempt for the few cases that are normal to a functioning society. Additionally, I am lucky to have a family who is loving and in a relationship which is supportive. This satisfies the needs of belongingness and love.

As we climb up the stages it becomes difficult to achieve all the needs. For example, the fourth stage of esteem needs which include achievement, responsibility, status and reputation. I took up responsibilities of my life the moment I entered into adulthood. Although I have not achieved all my goals, I feel I am in the right track of achieving my academic qualification, thus build my reputation and status in the society. The last level is self-actualization needs which is a continuous process because when a human being achieve one goal………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….
