A high-risk investment is “one for which there is either a large percentage chance of loss of capital or under-performance

Classmate 1

A high-risk investment is “one for which there is either a large percentage chance of loss of capital or under-performance – or a relatively high chance of a devastating loss” (Simpson, 2021). In other words, a risky investment in assets means how much the return of investments deviates from its expected returns. If two assets are earning the same expected return, but one of the assets are riskier, then the investor should choose the less riskier asset as this option will provide fewer benefits for the investor. One of the first options on an investing app given to the investor is if they want to be a risky investor, or more conservative and safe. As discussed in text, the risk-return tradeoff highlights that the higher the risk, the higher the return. This is also an inverse relationship. A riskier asset can, sometimes, provide a greater amount of returns but can also result in a major loss. Any kind of investment is a risk, whether high or low. All business deals can be a gamble. This week, the text for this concept discusses the differences between high risk and low risk assets. “Small spreads between risky and less risky assets meant either that the world had become less risky or that investors were simply ignoring risk in search of higher returns” (Froeb et al., 2018). In order for a corporation to efficiently receive a favorable return, it needs to ensure that the managers and financial analysts are operating accurately and wisely. This is the reason why maintaining an equally weighted portfolio is imperative.

Classmate 2

How risky an investment in asset means how much the investment returns deviate from the expected return of the investment. The standard deviation is a statistic measure use to calculate this. If two assets are earning same expected return but one is riskier than other, then the investor should choose less risky asset over riskier asset for the investment. This is because as per the risk averse concept, many people will want to minimize the uncertainty by choosing investments/assets which have a lower risk. Individuals differ when it comes to willingness in bearing risks. Nevertheless, if two assets have a similar return, most individuals will prefer the asset that presents less risk. Also, investors sell the risky asset, driving down its price and increasing its expected return. Expected return will keep going up until investors are just indifferent between the risky stock and the less risky stock. Investors want to earn the highest return possible for a level of risk that they are willing to take. One way to adjust the riskiness of a portfolio is by varying the proportion of the risk-free asset and the risky asset. The investment opportunity set is the set of all combinations of the risky and risk-free assets, which graphs as a line when plotted as return against risk, as measured by the standard deviation. The line begins at the intercept with the minimum return and no risk of the risk-free asset, when the entire portfolio is invested in the risk-free asset, to the maximum return and risk when the entire portfolio is invested in the risky asset

Working for a large school district in Nashville, one of our challenges is low-income and parent involvement

Working for a large school district in Nashville, one of our challenges is low-income and parent involvement. We have a lot of people moving to the Nashville area because it is known as the “it” city, but it should also be the “it” city for our children (Hale & Borg, 2019). Metro school is a diverse school system with 159 schools and 132 different languages spoken by the students (mnps.org); therefore, involving the parents (especially in the low-income areas) is important for student success.

Parental involvement and low income go hand in hand because low-income areas have less parent involvement. Low-income families who support themselves on hourly wages with few options for paid time off often have no choice but to miss out on school events (Kominiak, 2017). Having parents involved in their children’s school helps extend the classroom outside of school and creates a more positive learning experience. I know my parents were involved with my education and I was involved with my children’s education, and it saddens me to know children do not have that support.

I would love to see some transit assistance for those families who can attend to make it to the school if schools would reach out to the parents to see what it would take to have their involvement. If we could bridge the gap between low-income and parental involvement, our students would be more successful in school and their future.

  4. Write the Class comment and @author and @version tags
  5. Declare and initialize 5 Constants for:
    1. The cost of a hamburger is 4.75
    2. The cost of a cheeseburger is 4.95
    3. The cost of a small fry is 1.00
    4. The cost of a large fry is 2.50
    5. The cost of a drink (one size only) is 2.75
      • Remember to name your Constants according to Javascript standards using ALL_CAPS.

  9. Following the example of Steps 7 & 8, write the prompts for each food item and create variables to store the inputs.  Use Scanner methods to read in the values from the Console.  (You will have 5 more prompt and input statements.)

  11. Using printf statements, output the Restaurant name (Burger Hut) and the date and time (6/2/8/2021 5:51 PM) indented.  *Note: To indent the output in, you will need a numerical value in your printf statement before the ‘s’ in %s  (see p. 52).  You can judge how far in to indent by comparing the ‘B’ in Burger to the line above it – notice it is under the ‘d’ in drinks.
  12. Using a println statement, output the last name, first initial of the user.
  13. Using printf statements, output the total with 2 decimal places (see p. 52) and the goodbye message indented .  Again, use the method of Step 11 to judge how far to indent.  You will also need the \\ and // in the message, so please make sure to look at Escape Sequences.
  14. Submit your code in Code Check and check the results of the tests. Please correct any error messages or output formatting issues.
  15. Once you have everything correct, download the zipped file and then upload to this Assignment folder.  You should see a “Download” button that looks like this that will give you a zipped file containing your code and test data:

Testing and Submitting

Once you have thoroughly tested your program, please upload the zipped file only to this Programming Project 1 folder.

You will be graded on:

  1. Neatness of code and use of proper indentation of 4 spaces, 8 spaces, etc.  This is the Checkstyle part of your Report.
  2. Commenting of code – including class comment, @author, @version, and code comments. This is the Checkstyle part of your Report.
  3. Good use of constant and variable names – they should be descriptive names and not individual characters or abbreviations.  Ex.  FINAL_COST or firstName. This is the Checkstyle part of your Report.
  4. Output is correct and matches the Sample Output for all tests that executed on your code in Code Check.  This is the Test 1, Test 2, etc. part of your Report.  They must say “Pass”.
  5. Correct calculations using variables and constants (i.e. the math is correct).  This is the Test 1, Test 2, etc. part of your Report.
  6. My visual inspection of your code.  I will be checking for good variable and constant names and well as good indenting of code.  Instructor reserves the right to make adjustments to the Code Check score based on inspection
