A manufacturing facility that makes steel materials handling devices such as hand carts and an assortment of roller carts for moving heavy materials around in manufacturing facilities has decided to start making cantilever storage racking systems

 1.  A manufacturing facility that makes steel materials handling devices such as hand carts and an assortment of roller carts for moving heavy materials around in manufacturing facilities has decided to start making cantilever storage racking systems. This will require the purchase and installation of a 12-foot hydraulic press brake and a 12-foot shear in the fabrication department along with the necessary tools and dies to bend and punch holes in the rack components that will largely be manufactured from formed sheet metal. Employees have experience working smaller versions of this type of equipment, but room will need to be made and larger pieces of sheet metal will need to be cut and handled. The department will also need to continue to produce existing orders while the new equipment is installed. How can a management of change program be used to reduce risks in such a scenario? (75 words)

2.  Your organization, a company that manufactures fitness equipment such as treadmills and elliptical machines, is about to introduce lean concepts into its operations in order to be more competitive with foreign manufacturers. The foreman from the assembly department, however, does not think that his employees have the time to be involved with the lean initiative. Provide a convincing argument about why it is important for the assembly line workers to play a part. (75 words)

3.  Your purchasing department does not want to buy adjustable hydraulic pallet stands for the filter assembly line at a company that makes oil filters for cars and trucks. They state that the current process works just fine and that expensive, adjustable stands are not required in the Occupational Health and Safety Administration standards. The production employees in the facility are largely female and many have worked at the facility for decades. The current process for accessing filter parts entails having assemblers bend over to pick up arm loads of the various filter components from a pallet or bin and placing them on a table beside their respective workstations. The parts are assembled and pressed into place, and the completed product placed in a separate bin. Please provide a risk-based argument as to why the adjustable pallet stands would be the better choice. (200 words)

Course Materials tab, or also clickable in the Syllabus, entitled “Problem Solutions Matrix.

The purpose of this assignment is to review the root causes of the problem and all of the previously tried, as well as new, solutions you researched to address the problem. From that information, potential solutions should be ranked based upon how well they meet the needs of the business and address the identified problem. After this process is completed, the best solution for solving the problem within your organization can be selected.

Complete the “Problem Solutions Matrix” spreadsheet using the data and information you collected through research and completion of the Stakeholder Analysis in Topics 2 and 3. In the Solution Design Matrix tab, you will address the solutions previously implemented and compare to the new proposed problem solution for addressing the problem within your organization. Be sure to consider the “Solutions Score” column number when documenting the solutions. Review how to score your solution in the directions on the spreadsheet.

When scoring your solutions, you must also consider the timeline for implementation, costs and benefits to key stakeholders and the greater good, potential roadblocks to implementation, and how you will measure and validate whether a solution is successful in addressing the problem. After all of these have been considered and the solutions have been scored, identify the top three most viable solutions and transfer them to the “Problems Solutions Matrix” Part 2 tab. You will then provide specific resources and data to support the problem-solving strategy and identify the best solution strategy as indicated in the spreadsheet.

  • Please locate the Excel document under the Course Materials tab, or also clickable in the Syllabus, entitled “Problem Solutions Matrix.”
  • Upon opening this document, you will notice two major sections: “Previous Problem Solution” and “Proposed Problem Solution.”
  • Simply go through your previously identified attempts to fix your problem, and those that you propose and list them accordingly.
  • Rank each of the categories with a 1, 3, or 5 (5 being the best), based on your estimation of how each solution would affect each group in each category.
  • The category of “Customer Importance” gets double the value (2, 6, or 10), due to the high importance of the customer in the grand scheme of things.
  • Total up the results to determine which solutions would have better value than others.
  • Please copy and paste your results into an MS Word document again. Please do what you have to, to make it readable and pleasing to look at.
  • Consider the choices by the value and the feasibility of implementing, and taking into account the intangibles that might not be weighted into your score.
  • Give me three small paragraphs, one outlining what you will choose to propose based on the scores and your careful consideration, one as an introduction to the assignment, and one that wraps it up at the end.
  • Don’t forget to cite your work. Scores should be based on more than gut feelings, therefore citation-worthy material

(Total: 50 marks) SECTION B (This section weighs 50 % of the total marks)

Jet engines are combustion engines and it is a type of reaction engine discharging a fast-moving jet that generates thrust by jet propulsion. While this broad definition can include rocket, water jet, and hybrid propulsion, the term jet engine typically refers to an airbreathing jet engine such as a turbojet, turbofan, ramjet, or pulse jet. Airbreathing jet engines typically feature a rotating air compressor powered by a turbine, with the leftover power providing thrust through the propelling nozzle – this process is known as the Brayton thermodynamic cycle. Jet aircraft use such engines for long-distance travel. Early jet aircraft used turbojet engines that were relatively inefficient for subsonic flight. Most modern subsonic jet aircraft use more complex high-bypass turbofan engines. They give higher speed and greater fuel efficiency than piston and propeller aeroengines over long distances. A few air-breathing engines made for high speed applications (ramjets and scramjets) use the ram effect of the vehicle’s speed instead of a mechanical compressor. The thrust of a typical jet liner engine went from 22,000 N (de Havilland Ghost turbojet) in the 1950s to 510,000 N (General Electric GE90 turbofan) in the 1990s, and their reliability went from 40 in-flight shutdowns per 100,000 engine flight hours to less than 1 per 100,000 in the late 1990s. This, combined with greatly decreased fuel consumption, permitted routine transatlantic flight by twin-engine airliners by the turn of the century, where previously a similar journey would have required multiple fuel stops.
