What do you notice when you get into a car that has been sitting in the sun for a while?

What do you notice when you get into a car that has been sitting in the sun for a while?
Why is the inside of the car so hot?
How would things be different if the car’s windows were left open?

Greenhouse Effect CER Report

Student Name:

In the box below, please type your name.

Question:

How does the amount of greenhouse gases affect the temperature of the Earth’s Atmosphere?

The  incoming radiation is also known as the short wave ultra-violate and visible form of radiation, in this case some of the radiation will be reflected  through the surface of the  earth into  space  as part of the infra-red radiation.  At this the greenhouse gases are going to absorb the infra-red radiation by reflecting it earth in form of heat thus causing increased temperatures.

Experiment using the Gizmo:

Play around with the “Greenhouse Effect” Gizmo.  Use the purple slider to change the percentage of greenhouse gases in the simulation (let the simulations run about 10 days for each percentage).  Note what happens to the temperature of the atmosphere when you make these changes– view these results in the table, bar chart, and graph (the temperature is represented by the color green).  Record the appropriate data in the evidence section below.

Claim:

In the space below, make a statement (one sentence should be enough) that answers the question above.

The greenhouse effect looks at the natural process for which the earth atmosphere looks like a greenhouse to establish the moderate temperatures which life on earth is adapted. When the greenhouse effect is not present, then it is likely to witness a huge drop of temperatures.

Evidence:

In the space below, give evidence from the Gizmo that supports the claim you made.  Evidence is the results of the experimentation.  This evidence should be in the form of a data table* and in paragraph** form.

Data*Explanation of Data** (make sure to quote at least four specific pieces of data)
Greenhouse Gas PercentageHighest Daily TempLowest Daily TempAverage Daily Temp (add the highest and lowest temps then divide by 2)The  data shows that there is a relationship between the  increase in global temperatures and the rate of greenhouse gas emissions, which leads to changes in climatic conditions.

Reasoning:

Research the following scientific principles:  Greenhouse Effect;Conversion of Energy (light to heat).  Use the knowledge you gained from researching these scientific principles to explain why the evidence you collected during the gizmo validates your claim.

From the experiment it is evident that light passes through the atmosphere thus hitting the earth it is then absorbed and changed,  the heat will then dissipate to the outer space while some of the heat will be trapped by the greenhouse gasses thus altering the earth warmth.…………………………………………………………………………………………………
