The brief outlines that women are objectified in advertisements and this is shown in the differences between the perceived cheap and expensive products. In research on women objectification done by Dr. Kathleen Vohs of the University of Minnesota and published in Journal of Psychological Science shows that women are more comfortable in sexual imagery in advertisements of luxury products than with cheap products (TIME, 2013). In a research on 47 women on advertisements for watches prized randomly shows that women associated with more expensive products were less emotionally upset than when associated with cheaper products. However, no difference in attitudes towards products was found among men. Researchers in psychology have found that the experience of one growing as a woman may evolve being treated as object to be evaluated. According to (Bailey, Lamarch, Gammage & Sullivan, 2016; Rollero & De Piccoli, 2017) self-objectification occurs when people treat themselves as objects to be evaluated by other people in the society.
