The ethical philosophy utilitarianism

Now that you have had an opportunity to explore ethics formally, create a reflective assessment of your learning experience and the collaborations you engaged in throughout this session. You will submit both of the following:

  • A written reflection

For the written reflection, address Jane Doe’s and respond to the following:

  • Articulate again your moral theory from week eight discussion (You can revise it if you wish). What two ethical theories best apply to it? Why those two?

week 8 discussion :’’The ethical philosophy chosen is utilitarianism. This philosophy is attributable to happiness if identified actions are right or harmful if the actions are considered to be wrong regardless of the prevailing conditions (Sen, 2019). It is meaningful to me since it is focused on contentment. Thus its moral obligation and importance is that it advocates for the satisfaction of the parties involved. The precedents of utilitarianism philosophy entail the following; that happiness of everyone counts uniformly, that actions are right if they result in pleasure otherwise wrong if they render unhappiness and that pleasure is the only thing that matters.

John Doe’s involves a fiction scenario tailored at protecting the identity of witnesses in a case. Thus it is a slang name that informally represents the witnesses in a case to prevent them from manipulation by the defendant as their identity is rendered secretive (Smart, 2018). By application of the utilitarianism philosophy, a witness is considered to be happy (contented) if the identity is not revealed before the case for law during prosecution and hence we aspire to gain useful evidence. The morality of the theory revolves around its reliability as its only main obligation is to render witnesses pleasured. However, it might be termed immoral in situations where faithful information is required about every detail of the underlying case since no matter what; identity of the witnesses ought not to be revealed. Thus compromises its integrity.

Veil of ignorance constitutes the ethical reasoning whereby fair ruling is anticipated from a case by denying the parties involved any information that might bias them into suspecting who might benefit more from the ruling(Heen,2020). Thus in John Doe’s case, when the identity of the witnesses is hidden, it is hard to identify possible relations of them with the plaintiff or defendant. This makes the judges seek justice independent of any information are sympathy to one of the parties at the expense of the other.’’

  • Apply to Jane Doe’s case your personal moral philosophy as developed in week eight discussion and now. Use it to determine if what Jane Doe did was ethical or unethical per your own moral philosophy.
  • Consider if some of these examples are more grave instances of ethical transgressions than others. Explain.
  • Propose a course of social action and a solution by using the ethics of egoism, utilitarianism, the “veil of ignorance” method, deontological principles, and/or a theory of justice to deal with students like  Jane. Consider social values such as those concerning ways of life while appraising the interests of diverse populations (for instance, those of differing religions and economic status).

briefly summarize your feelings about taking a course in Ethics and explore your process of transformation in this course.

  • Discuss your experiences of the course, your beginnings, and where you are now. Consider your interaction in discussions.
  • Should health care workers be required to take a course in Ethics? Why or why not

Introduction

The ideology of gender plays a big role on the way that sports is carried out throughout the years. This is based on the idea that men are supposed to be aggressive, fast, strong and competitive which is reproduced in many sports. In the same way, women are usually not encouraged to play sports since the traits above are not naturally associated with women.  This shows that a woman who exhibit these traits will be seen as going against the ideology of gender that most people in the community will not view her as being feminine. In today’s world of sports, a woman has to deal with the lack of resources or financial support since her politicians also carry the same ideology and will not support a woman in sports. It is only recently that the situation is considerably improving in various spheres of sports.

Current situation of gender discrimination in sports

Admittedly, sports has a huge impact on culture, and most people even use sports  as an excuse to bring families together or share some quality time with one another. Whether there are there to just hang out, some people have even used sports to engage in meaningful conversations with a lot of fervid passion in the time that they discuss memorable plays, coaches and athletes(Cooky&Lavoi, 2018).  However, these are just positive traits that are discussed which sports is associate with, it is important for one to be informed  about the various issues  that sports faces(Chattopadhyay, 2017). These are issues which keep the practices of sports from being what it is meant to be, that is free from malice, discrimination and ill treatment due to one’s gender. There needs to be a peaceful collaboration which is perpetuate by authentic equality in addition to proclaiming the love for the game(Ferretti&Mariani, 2017).

Sports also plays a very important role in the country’s culture. According to theUnited States youth sports statistics, about 40,000 kids between ages 5-28 will take place in organized sports each year(Chattopadhyay, 2017).  This means that sports continues to grow especially due to the modern advancement in technology. Things continue to change in the world of sports, this is because sports as it continue to change, and there is a social norm around the country(Cooky&Lavoi, 2018). With this being said and done, it was in the 1800 that sports was not socially acceptable for women, as it was seen as a man’s activity(Chattopadhyay, 2017).  This was viewed for all sports types including football, baseball, hockey and everything else that required a vigorous physical activity.  In the recent years, women are allowed to play in the prototypical ‘man’s sport’ however, there is still a lot of discrimination against women in various manner that might be seen as less obvious. Generally men have a lot of leagues that women(Cooky&Lavoi, 2018). Even though the leagues associated with men sports exist, those of women are far less and ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..  own personal philosophy of sport in terms of social responsibility

My Nursing Portfolio

Summary of educational and professional goals

Past experiences with ill family and friends led me to choose nursing as my career. This included looking out for a younger brother who suffers from autism as well as a friend who suffers from asthma. This instilled in me a caring and nurturing personality as well as ability to cope with stressful situations. Based on this background, there are a number of educational and professional goals that I wish to achieve in the next ten years.

One of my main goals is lifelong learning in the field of nursing. The nursing program I am pursuing equips me with a variety of knowledge and skills that have stimulated me to pursue further competencies in the nursing field. In the light of this, I would like to acquire more nursing skills, knowledge and experience both in classroom and practicing situations. This includes pursuing master and doctorate degrees in nursing as well as various post-graduate certificate programs. It also involves initiating and participating in various evidence-based practices (EBP) programs at the workplace to contribute to research in various areas of nursing. I will join relevant nursing organizations and attend nursing conferences and workshops so as to stay current. These learning initiatives will ensure that I am more competent and effective as a practicing nurse by making me understand the rationale and methods in my work. It will also enable me to effectively pass on the acquired knowledge, skills and experiences to other nurses, including nursing students.

Another goal is to become a successful nurse by developing the necessary characteristics. This will ensure that I have a fulfilling and satisfying career by positively impacting on the patients and people I interact with. This includes being emotionally stable, compassionate and empatheticin a mostly stressful profession that has many traumatic situations that involve suffering and death. In so doing, I will be more effective in my roles as a caregiver and a comforter for the afflicted. Developing the characteristics also involves enhancing my communication and team skills so as to liaise more effectively between the doctor and the patient, anticipate situations as well as interact and bond effectively in a nosocomial environment and in class. This would involve respect for people and rules; being impartial, confidential and mindful of cultures and traditions whilst putting the patient first at all times.

Anticipated and unanticipated situations call for problem-solving skills, quick response and calmness on the part of the nurse, qualities that I aim at enhancing. Physical endurance and flexibility are also important characteristic that will enable me cope with rigorous schedules and activities as well as fit my personal activities around my career since nursing involves working long hours, nightshifts and working weekends.  Attention to detail is a quality that will make me avoid mistakes and near misses that have far-reaching consequences in the health sector.

My goal is to attain, develop and conform to the above characteristics so as to make me an effective nurse throughout my career.

Another goal is to provide healthcare community service especially to the less fortunate in society. This will be my way of giving back to the community. This could involve traveling to developing countries where there are many people who cannot afford nursing services. It would also involve volunteering my services in places where there are disease epidemics and disasters. I will achieve this by joining disaster response organizations such as America Red Cross and also registering with various nursing and disaster registries. Serving the less fortunate will ensure that I provide care and comfort to the poor and deprived, help me enhance my aptitudes and self-esteem as well as make me interact with people from different places and backgrounds.

With these goals of continuous learning, attainment of important nursing characteristics and volunteering, I aim to develop into a holistic human being who contributes to healthcare provision and making the world a better place for all.

Philosophy of Nursing

I will pursue lifelong learning to become the best nurse I can be. As the finest of Fine Arts that deals with a living body, unlike painting, sculptor or even architecture that deal with non-living things, nursing is a fine calling and a privilege that I will embrace with my whole being.

This is by practicing my core values and beliefs as well as developing the requisite characteristics that include kindness, honesty, endurance, teamwork, impartiality, confidentialityand success. The values and characteristics will guide my caring and comforting of patients and my service to the well-being of humanity.

Through lifelong learning and…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….. Philosophy of Nursing

Philosophy of Community-Based Corrections Based on Larry Greene Profile

The presidential Commission on Law Enforcement and Administration of Justice of 1967 introduced the integration of offenders with their community or society. Rather than being incarcerated, offenders like Larry Greene can be integrated into the community through a number of community programs that have specific goals and intended outcomes. According to (Alarid, Cromwell, Del Carmen & Cromwell, 2008) for community-based programs to meet the objectives of integration, they must provide a form of adaptation so that the offenders are able to utilize their skills in the community. This can only be possible through the alignment of the program goals and the outcomes.             Goals are an important component of community-based correction programs as it allows them to be evaluated on their efficiency, effectiveness, bases of need, and public safety and protection. According to (Alarid, Cromwell, Del Carmen & Cromwell, 2008) one of the goal of the community corrections is to assist offenders to conform to the required behavior as well as monitor their progress.
