Society of Clinical Psychology database of Psychological Treatments and related treatment-specific resources

The purpose of this assignment is to report how to work with minority groups when considering empirically based treatments.

Parameters

This brochure will be designed as a two-page tri-fold brochure, referencing the Society of Clinical Psychology website: https://div12.org/psychological-treatments/. Think about the brochure as a double-sided brochure if you were to print it out, which means that each of the two pages of the brochure should be tri-fold. Please include a minimum of three references to this website and link the site to the appropriate location. You are expected to use the current APA formatting for citations.

Canva, Venngage, and Visme are just a few of the free online tools that provide brochure templates to help you get started!

Prompt

Navigate to the Division 12: Society of Clinical Psychology database of Psychological Treatments and related treatment-specific resources. Using the site’s “Treatments” tab, select and review one psychological treatment from the provided list. This treatment should be one that you want to get trained to provide to treat clients.

Your brochure will market your treatment so that clients know what you are providing in therapy and how this treatment is successful in minority groups. This brochure will include, but not be limited to:

  • the name of your practice, location, and contact information (you can make this up) on the cover of the brochure, along with the name of the treatment you are going to describe in the tri-fold document;
  • a summary of the selected psychological treatment and its target group in a section called “Treatment Summary;”
  • the population used in the clinical trials (including cultural composition) in a section called “Research Population(s);”
  • the treatment’s underlying assumptions, beliefs, and values in a section called “Values and Assumptions of Therapy;”
  • potential benefits and limitations when used with culturally diverse populations in a section called “Benefits and Limitations for Diverse Populations;”
  • recommended implementation of “adaptations” when used with marginalized groups in a section called “Potential Adaptations of Therapy,” and
  • references from the website on the back cover in a section called “References.” This section should list your sources in the current APA style.

Psychology professionals to inform groups or individuals of the assessments appropriate for their current needs

Psychological Assessment Report

A psychological assessment report is created by psychology professionals to inform groups or individuals of the assessments appropriate for their current needs. This type of report also includes a summary of the services provided to these groups or individuals. This evaluation is used by the various entities to assess basic needs, competencies, preferences, skills, traits, dispositions, and abilities for different individuals in a variety of settings.

Psychological reports vary widely depending on the psychology professional creating it and the needs being assessed. Some of the psychology professionals who create this type of report include counselors, school psychologists, consultants, psychometricians, or psychological examiners. This type of report may be as short as three pages or as long as 20 or more pages depending on the needs of the stakeholders. Many reports include tables of scores that are attached either in an appendix or integrated into the report. Despite the many variations in assessment reports, most include the same essential information and headings.

Students will choose one of the personality assessment scenarios from the discussions in Weeks Two, Three, or Four to use as the basis of this psychological assessment report. Once the scenario has been chosen, students will research a minimum of four peer-reviewed articles that relate to and support the content of the scenario and the report as outlined below. The following headings and content must be included in the report:

The Reason for Referral and Background Information
In this section, students will describe the reasons for the referral and relevant background information for all stakeholders from the chosen personality assessment scenario.

Assessment Procedures
In this section, students will include a bulleted list of the test(s) and other assessment measures recommended for the evaluation of the given scenario. In addition to the assessment(s) initially provided in the personality assessment scenario from the weekly discussion, students must include at least three other measures appropriate for the scenario.

Immediately following the bulleted list, students will include a narrative description of the assessments. In the narrative, students will examine and comment on the major theoretical approaches, research methods, and assessment instruments appropriate for the situation and stakeholder needs. In order to defend the choice of recommended assessments, students will evaluate current research in the field of personality theories and provide examples of how these assessments are valid for use in the chosen scenario. For additional support of these recommended assessment measures, students will evaluate the standardization, reliability and validity, and cultural considerations present in these personality assessments that make them the most appropriate tools for the given scenario. Students will conclude the narrative by assessing types of personality measurements and research designs often used in scenarios like the one chosen and providing a rationale for why some of those assessments were not included.

General Observations and Impressions
In this section, students will describe general observations of the client during the assessment period provided in the chosen personality assessment scenario and explain whether the client’s behavior might have had a negative impact on the test results. Students will analyze and comment on how the APA’s Ethical Principles and Code of Conduct affected the implementation of the personality assessment during the initial process. Based on the observations and analysis, students will assess the validity of the evaluation and make a recommendation for or against the necessity for additional testing.

Test Results and Interpretations
In this section, students will analyze the results of the assessment provided in the chosen personality assessment scenario. Based on the score, students will interpret the personality factors (conscientiousness, openness, emotional stability, introversion, extroversion, work drive, self-directedness, etc.) that are present.

Note: Typically, this section reports test results and is the longest section of a psychological assessment report because the results of all the tests administered are analyzed and reported. Some psychologists report all test results individually, while others may integrate only a portion of the test results. However, in this report, only the assessment presented in the chosen personality assessment scenario will be included.

Summary and Recommendations
In this section, students will summarize the test results.  They will provide a complete explanation for the evaluation, the procedures and measures used, and the results and include any recommendations translating the evaluation into strategies and suggestions to support the client. Finally, students will provide any conclusions and diagnostic impressions drawn from the previous sections of the report

Preface

Since my childhood days, I had always been keen on many issues that are going around my vicinity. This made me love listening to the elderly, educative programs being aired by national television and generally, I loved listening to wise counsel from preachers, psychologists, and my parents. This has made me instrumental to my peers as I have always been sought after to give counsel to my classmates and it was the primary drive in my career choice. As I grew older, I have developed the art of helping the people that are stressed from different avenues like jobs, marriages, relationships and those that are undergoing different addictions. Therefore, I made it my choice to be a social worker and more specifically a counseling psychologist.

I am composing this handbook for talking about assisting people from stress-related avenues to get back into their lives track. I have learned and seen many people being unable to control their situations culminating to suicide and other horrible acts; these individuals could not have reached those levels in case they encountered a counseling psychologist to assist them. My peers, parents and fellow students are always happy when we interact, and I assist them in digesting life situations, and this makes me feel honored and happy fulfilling my dreams.

Introduction

Psychology is generally the study that is concerned about the human brain, its interactions, and the results of these contemplations. It specifically tries to answer questions on why people respond the way they react to a particular situation or responses to different stimuli. In this handbook, it will focus on six different theories that explain ways that people with different stress responds and the need for fixing their ways of thinking to fix this cycle before it comes down to them generally being incarcerated.

Initially, it will tackle operant and classical conditioning which answers the “what” and “why” people indulge in anything (Aranda, Arellano, & Davila, 2017). It modifies an individual’s behaviors by the use of positive and negative reinforcements. It is mostly a reward system where people associate consequence with behavior. Classical conditioning delves into an individual learning a new way of living (behavior) through the process of association.

Content domains within the larger field of psychology

The primary goal of this literature review is to integrate concepts from four different content domains within the larger field of psychology. The four content domains should be chosen from previous coursework in this program. In this paper, students will review the findings in the individual empirical articles, organize the research in a meaningful way, evaluate the reliability, validity, and generalizability of the research findings, and present an integrated synthesis of the research that sheds new light on the topics within and across the four domains.

The result of a successful integrative literature review may be a significant contribution to a particular body of knowledge and, consequently, to research and practice. Therefore, before writing this literature review, substantive new research must be conducted via the Internet and within the Ashford University Library for each of the four chosen domains. A minimum of six sources must be included for each of the four domains. Case for Recognition of Internet Addiction asa Psychiatric Disorder

Introduction

This is a review of internet addiction (IA) literature in light of various psychological domains. It reviews over 24articles, at least six for each of the domains of neuroscience, cognitive, developmental and behavioral domains. The researcher recognizes the interconnectedness of the domains, and this is reflected in the selection, analysis, critiquing and synthesizing of the articles. Further, there are various recommendations in the conclusion that are based on the research hypothesis that there is a need for recognition of IA as a psychiatric disorder by the World Health Organizationand in Diagnostic Statistical Manual of Psychiatric Disorders (DSM-5.

Viewed as a form of social interaction, IAhas been defined “as a non-chemical, behavioral addiction, which involves human-machine interaction” (Cerniglia, Zoratto, Cimino and Laviola, 2016). Although not presented as a psychiatric disorder in DSM-5, IA presents various signs and symptoms that would qualify it as a form of psychiatric disorder. These include reclusion or the hikikomori phenomenon tendency andreduced or non-existent real-life social interactions. Young identified five types of internet addiction behaviors that include cyber-sexual addiction, cyber-relationship addiction, net compulsions, information overload and computer addiction (Pontes, Kuss, Griffiths, 2015). There is a case to include phubbing in this list, as is evident later in this review. Notably DSM-5 recognizes online gambling, a form of net compulsion, as a mental disorder.

The various effects of IA include a risk to mental health through stunted development of identity, self-image and adaptive social relations. Adolescents afflicted by IA “often suffer loss of control, feelings of anger, symptoms of distress, social withdrawal, and familial conflicts” (Cerniglia, et al., 2016). Clinical conditions associated with IA include “dysthymic, bipolar, affective, social-anxiety disorders and major depression” (Cerniglia, et al., 2016).

IA can be investigated from various psychological domains. These neuroscience, behavioral, developmental and cognitive psychological domains.

Neuroscience domain

Neuroscience practices can be traced to ancient Egypt. Hippocrates and Plato advanced recognition of the brain as the center of intelligence, with Gael showing damage to the brain led to loss of mental faculties. Theories that contributed to development of neuroscience psychology include electrical excitability and the neuron doctrine. Franz Joseph Gall proposed the localization of function hypothesis, especially with reference to language and certain psychological functions, a hypothesis that was confirmed by…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………. ………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

prevalence of psychology professionals

Prior to beginning work on this discussion forum, be certain to have read all the required resources for this week. In recent years, the psychology profession has been greatly influenced by various forms of technology. The prevalence of psychology professionals using technology to market themselves and engage, socialize, and interact with others has created new opportunities and challenges. This is particularly true with regard to potential interactions with clients via these technologies. Given the exponential growth with which these technological advancements are permeating our world, we expect to see the proliferation of new issues, challenges, and opportunities within the realms of psychological research and practice.

In your initial post:

Provide an overview of the relevant issues, ongoing trends, challenges, and future opportunities for psychology professionals and the populations they serve.
Explain how the APA’s Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct can be used to guide decisions in the ethical application of these technologies.
Construct clear and concise arguments using evidence-based psychological concepts and theories to explain how current technological and policy shifts may influence trends in psychological research and practice.
Evaluate potential work settings where the use of technologies promotes ease and convenience for both psychology professionals and the populations they serve.
What are the potential responsibilities of the psychology professionals as providers of care with regard to the use of these technologies? Does the increase in ease, convenience, and experience satisfaction for the parties involved outweigh any potential negative outcomes?

WEEK 2 DISCUSSION

Prior to beginning work on this discussion forum, be certain to have read all the required resources for this week.

The collaborative practice of clinicians across disciplines requires a shared language, appreciation of diagnostic and therapeutic paradigms, and recognition of appropriate roles within the health care team.  This collaborative environment is at the heart of a health care system that utilizes the skills and expertise of all its team members in appropriate and extended roles. This model of care delivery is often called integrated care (IC) or collaborative care (CC). Although this model is endorsed by many professional societies and agencies, the CC/IC care delivery model can fail due to multiple factors.

In your initial post, consider the clinical partnerships that result within the CC/IC delivery model. Integrating concepts developed from different content domains in psychology, address the following questions.

How might health care teams achieve therapeutic goals for individual clients?
How does this support health literacy?
What factors might lead to the failure of the CC/IC delivery model?
How might lack of acceptance of the value or viability of the CC/IC model by stakeholders, lack of awareness of the clinical competencies of various members of the team, barriers to financial reimbursement for services, and lack of integration of support services within the practice cause a breakdown in efficacy?
What supportive interventions within the CC/IC model address such issues?
In addition, consider how successful health care models assume an understanding of each profession’s competencies and responsibilities. For example, primary care providers (PCPs) are sometimes unaware of the abilities and practice scope of psychology professionals.

Identify methods of targeted intervention and education for PCPs that might alleviate potential issues for the CC/IC model.
Explain how the APA Ethical Code of Conduct can be used to guide decisions in these complex situations.
Evaluate and comment on the potential work settings where you might find the CC/IC model. In what ways might this model provide more job satisfaction?

WEEK 3 DISCUSSION (1)

Prior to beginning work on this discussion forum, be certain to have read all the required resources for this week. The use of mandated, or legally coerced, treatment is widespread. Yet research demonstrating the efficacy of this type of treatment is limited, and mandating mental health treatment is one of the most contested issues in the field of psychology. To justify the continued use of mandated treatment, policymakers, practitioners, and researchers are obligated to demonstrate the effectiveness and limitations of such treatment programs.

You have been called in to consult on cases that may require mandated treatment. After reviewing the PSY699 The ethics of mandated treatment scenarios (Links to an external site.), choose two to discuss in your initial post. Begin your research with the required resources for this week. Using the specific situations presented in each of the scenarios you have chosen, conduct further research to help inform your recommendations for each individual. A minimum of one resource per scenario, beyond those already required for the assignment, must be included in your initial post.

In your post, construct clear and concise arguments using evidence-based psychological concepts and theories to present your recommendations as to whether or not treatment should be mandated for the individuals in each of the scenarios. As you write your recommendations, be certain to provide insights into the following questions.

What are the ethical principles and implications raised by legally mandating clients into treatment?
What evidence exists regarding the effectiveness of treatment with and without coercion for this type of situation?
What would be the challenges in evaluating the effectiveness of mandated treatment?
How might mandated treatment impact your clinical decision making as the mental health professional assigned to these cases?
What client factors might limit or augment the potential benefits of treatment if it were mandated?
Integrating concepts from your research and the required readings, offer insights across different content domains as to why you have reached these conclusions. Explain how you used the APA Ethical Code of Conduct to guide your decisions. Evaluate the generalizability of your specific research findings to the situations presented and provide a rationale as to why this research supports your recommendations.

WEEK 3 DISCUSSION (2)

Effective clinical innovations and the dissemination of research findings are key elements in the growth and development of the psychology profession. There are numerous avenues that enable authors to publish and present their work. Poster presentations at conferences are effective methods for communicating research findings and providing opportunities to meet with other researchers and clinicians to discuss the research being presented. Thus, these types of conference presentations play a key role in the proliferation of research.

In this week’s discussion, you will be submitting your proposal for the Week Five Virtual Conference. You may utilize relevant assignments from previous courses in this program or suitable projects from your professional life. See the PSY699 Call for Student Poster (Links to an external site.) Presentations document for specific parameters and instructions on how to create your proposal. Following the guidelines presented in the document, create your proposal and attach it to your initial post in the discussion forum. Evaluate the impact participating in conference presentations may have on potential work settings and/or doctoral programs and comment on the following questions in your initial post.

How are conference presentations professionally relevant?
What elements of the proposal process were most difficult for you, and why?
What positive outcomes do you anticipate will come from this process, which may be applied to potential work settings and/or doctoral programs?

Critical review: Psychology articles

This critical review summarizes and critically analyses the two psychology articles, “Correlation of Depression, Behavioral Disorder and Delirium with Certain Genetic Abnormalities in Patients with Alzheimer’s Disease” and Beyond actions: Reparatory effects of regret in intergroup trust games”. Further, this paper looks at the possible areas of further research with regard to the articles.

General summary of the studies

The objective of the article “Correlation of Depression, Behavioral Disorder and Delirium with Certain Genetic Abnormalities in Patients with Alzheimer’s Disease” was to find out how particular genetic abnormalities influence some clinical features, specifically the dementia syndrome. This involved collecting blood samples from86 ambulatory patientssuffering from Alzheimer’s disease(AD) and 97 other people of a similar age as a control group. A statistical analysis led to the assumption that “the presence of the G/G polymorphism in neurotropic factor of the brain and the A/G in 5-HT2A-receptors can manifest as a protective factor of delirium incidence among the patients with AD. This was a pilot study with a follow up study planned.

For the article “Beyond actions: Reparatory effects of regret in intergroup trust games”, the aim was to establish how regret after economic decisions influence intergroup trust. This involved a series of three studies where group members played two-round trust games with another group. The findings were that subsequent interactions “were driven by regret increasing intergroup trust, rather than by happiness decreasing it” and influenced by a group’s perceptions of the extent an outgroup member was willing to change their behavior. Hence “regret expressions influence intergroup trust by attenuating the detrimental effects of unfair behavior”.

Critical analysis of the studies

That the second study on intergroup trust affects individual, corporate and societal interactions means that it has a wider impact than the first study that focuses on the dementia syndrome and targets clinicians. Further, the first study was a pilot study that led to assumptions that would form the basis of a subsequent study whereas the second study was complete being a series of three studies with more concrete findings and conclusions. With a more detailed report divided into the topics Introduction, Study 1, Study 2, Study 3, General Discussion and Appendix, each of the three studies in the second study has the subtopicsMethods, Results and Discussion. This is compared to the first article that has no subheadings for the topics Introduction, Overview, Methods,Results and Discussion. The second article was also published in a more established journal that has external peer reviewers and has been in publication in both print and electronic format for a long time compared to the journal for the first article that has an in-house editorial team peer reviewing the articles and that has been published online only for a relatively shorter time. The authors for the second article have affiliations for universities in US, UK and Germany while for the first article both the authors are affiliated to General University Hospital in Czech Republic.

Suggested areas for research

The first study was interested in the occurrence of depressions, behavioral disorders and associated deliriums. Further research can look at other influenced clinical features. The population sample is also too small leading to inconclusive findings. This can be expanded beyond the university hospital and into other countries and environmental settings. There is also need to research further on the major result of the study that the authors note as “the finding of higher number of polymorphisms G/G for BDNF and A/G for 5-HT2Aserotoninergic receptors among patients that didn’t suffer from deliriums”.

Further areas for research for the second study include establishing intergroup trust beyond the stimuli of facial expression and text-and-pictogram descriptions. The intergroup trust can also explore other emotions apart from regret……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

Health Disparities and Implicit Bias in Healthcare
Although there is a significant improvement in healthcare in the United States, there remains a disparity in healthcare across cultures. According to (Major, Mendes & Dovidio, 2013) health among disadvantaged groups defined by race, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, citizen-immigration status and ethnicity, have poor health compared to those from higher social groups. However, research has found that healthcare disparities extend beyond the structural and economic factors observed among individuals to include synergistic contributions of culture, individual-level factors, context and intergroup dynamics.
In their study, (Major, Mendes & Dovidio, 2013) found that other than structural and socio-economic factors, stereotypes and In addition to other causes Penner et al., (2010) points that the observed healthcare disparity in the U.S can be attributed to racial prejudice and stereotypes by the healthcare providers. In particular Penner et al., found that black patients tend to show less trust in their physician after visits than before visits. Seeking Immortality

Human aging and chronic diseases associated with old age have caused the greatest challenge and financial burdens in the world. In the developed world, the number of people in the old age is increasingly growing mainly due to the baby boom. In addition to their demanding care, aged people suffer from many age-related chronic illnesses which cost millions of dollars annually. Although the development of interventions to lengthen life by combating aging is one of the ways that scientists believe can help solve the challenges associated with aging it has attracted widespread skepticism about the negative impact it may bring.

The biologists claim in the video clip “Seeking Immortality”, that aging is a problem that society must combat is true. Although aging is a natural and biological process, it comes with increased healthcare costs associated with treatment of diseases associated with old age and for the care of the aged. According to (Kelley, McGarry, Gorges & Skinner, 2015) there has been a decline in the rates of growth of Medicare and a reduction in total healthcare bill paid by patients from their pockets in the United States of America. What this suggests is that the U.S government is allocating resources in the protection of the healthcare needs of the old. However, this could have an impact on the costs of healthcare.

Moreover, research has found that the proportion of the old in the United States and other developed countries is increasing (Longo et al., 2015). This means that more and more proportion of the population will consist of the aged. Given the growth of proportion of people in old age and the fact that many of this population segment suffer from many chronic illnesses such as cancer, this would lead to increased costs of healthcare. Kelley, McGarry, Gorges & Skinner (2015) in their study done among population of people aged 70, found that the healthcare costs for people suffering from dementia was higher than those of other diseases and that most of these expense remained uncovered. The means increased financial burden to the government and the people directly responsible for the care of the old.             In order to combat the problems caused by aging and those……………………………………………………………………………………………………
