The Event

– Accident occurred on On August 17, 2009 at 08:15

– Hydraulic unit was torn off, water gushed into engine room

– destroyed on an area of about 1200 square meters

– complete shutdown of the hydroelectric power plant

– The territory adjacent to the power plant was also under water

– more than 40 tons of engine oil spilled into the water area of the Yenisei River.

– At 09:20 the flow of water into the turbine hall was stopped

Recovery

– 115 people and 21 pieces of equipment were involved in initial recovery

– At 11:40 the gates of the spillway dam were opened and the balance of flow through the hydroelectric complex was restored

– localization of an oil slick on the Yenisei

– 20 rescuers, as well as special equipment and a task force of four people came to help

– Debris has been sorted out, and the power supply scheme is being restored.

– Less than a day after the accident, mass sea trout began to die

– Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation arrived with rescuers and the heads of the Russian Emergencies Ministry

– On August 24, less than a meter of water remained to be pumped out of the turbine hall of the Sayano-Shushenskaya HPP

– On September 23, 2009, the body of the last, 75th, deceased was found at the Sayano-Shushenskaya HPP.
