Is the recommended home near parks, shopping, leisure activities?

Memorandum

To: Vera Case, Manager

From: Jane Doe, Intern

Date: September 20, 2023

Subject: Recommended Home at Kraft Hill Road for the Tanner Family

A new job opportunity prompted the Tanner family to request assistance finding a new home that meets specific criteria . The family has certain requirements for their new home, including a spacious house large enough for a family of five within their allotted budget, comparably priced with neighboring properties, a short commute time, access to schools, and nearby convenience and  recreational options. The home at 9825 Kraft Hill Rd, Perry Hall, MD 21128 is perfect for the Tanner family as it satisfies all the family’s identified needs .

Spacious House that Satisfies Needs

The house at 9825 Kraft Hill Rd is the ideal size for the Tanner family. This property is 3,674 square feet and exceeds the family’s criteria, with four bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms (Redfin, 2022). The extra room provided in the basement makes a private, at-home office a possibility (Redfin, 2022). Although this residence sits on .3 acres, the gated yard, accompanied by a playground equipped for child’s play and family gatherings, sufficiently makes up for the .3 discrepancy in lot size requested by the client (Redfin, 2022). Figure 1 shows the ample backyard living space. This home meets the requirements for living space and outdoor enjoyment. In addition to being an appropriate size, Kraft Hill house offers a reasonable commute time to Kimberly and Daniel’s place of employment.

what makes a group a team is a shared common goal

Introduction
It is time for us to turn our attention to outlines, organization, and topic choice. This week has two separate assignments that will be submitted. Assignment 1 is the Team Outline Exercise, which involves group work and which will prepare you for Assignment 2, an individual assignment that will start you on the road to completing your Week 7 PowerPoint presentation.

Instructions

Part 1: Outline
This week, you will have an opportunity to work in a team and to put into practice many of the communication strategies about which we are learning. Your instructor has already assigned you to a group of team members. You need to solve a communication business problem outline together by the end of the week. Note: You must engage early in the week so that you have time to work together as a group. Remember, what makes a group a team is a shared common goal, and this team will be no exception. In this case, your shared goal is to create and deliver an A+ solution to a communication business outline.

The following is a list of ideas that were brainstormed in a meeting with your company employees. The company needs to include all these ideas in an all-company presentation, but the list is very disorganized right now. What would be the best way to sort these ideas into some sequence of main points with sub points?

Hints

  • There are 3 main points, and the rest are sub points.
  • There is no introduction or conclusion.

Discuss

  • Your group can be found in the menu under “People.”
  • You must use the discussion that is setup in the Group Home Page to work on this project.

With your assigned team, unscramble the following statements to create a logical outline for an upcoming business presentation. Use standard outline format as described in your textbook.

  1. Ensure that the language is used correctly.
  2. Speaker credibility influences how listeners feel about the speaker.
  3. Character is the quality of being honest, trustworthy, and showing goodwill.
  4. Deliver the speech with confidence.
  5. Credibility is an extremely important factor in determining speaker effectiveness.
  6. Connect the audience to the topic.
  7. Practice your delivery.
  8. Verbally cite personal subject knowledge.
  9. Present error-free written materials.
  10. Credibility has three primary characteristics: the three Cs.
  11. Ensure that typographical errors are eliminated.
  12. Charisma is the quality of being assertive, confident, and enthusiastic.
  13. Speaker credibility influences the listener’s ability to learn or to believe.
  14. Demonstrate expertise.
  15. Verbally cite expert sources.
  16. Connect yourself to the topic.
  17. Plan your delivery.
  18. Ensure that facts are correct.
  19. Competence is the quality of being an expert and being intelligent.
  20. Connect with the audience on a personal level.
  21. Establish common ground.
  22. Credibility is established in four ways.

All team members must collaborate in the group discussion and submit the same version of the outline. Please put the names of your group members who participated in this exercise on the title page under your name. Each member must submit the final group project for their grade.

Part 2: Reflection
As part of your individual submission, reflect on the group process. Was there miscommunication? Were there any listening barriers? How did the group handle it?

Developing the adaptive leadership toolkit that will be shared with your manager and chief human resources officer (CHRO) of the organization

You work as a director of leadership and learning for an organization that makes prosthetics. This year’s employee engagement survey results for the organization show that some leadership practices are rated lower, while some practices were rated higher. The new chief human resources officer (CHRO) met with the team to discuss the general results. Everyone agrees that the company’s focus should be on both specific leadership development areas perceived as strengths and on those rated as areas for improvement, primarily regarding social intelligence, emotional intelligence, and the interpersonal skills of effective leaders.

To help this initiative, your manager, the vice president of leadership and learning, asked you to create an adaptive leadership toolkit that can be used throughout the organization. To begin this work, you conducted a personal leadership self-assessment and turned this into a personal development plan. Then you shared this artifact with your manager. Your manager was impressed with the thoroughness of the personal development plan and saw value in incorporating it as an exemplar within the adaptive leadership toolkit for use by all people leaders in the organization. After receiving such positive feedback from your manager, you are now ready to move forward on developing the adaptive leadership toolkit that will be shared with your manager and chief human resources officer (CHRO) of the organization.

Prompt

  1. Summarize the business problems the organization is currently facing and describe how the adaptive leadership toolkit will address these problems.
  2. Based on the employee satisfaction survey, identify the skills and behaviors that are current strengths exhibited by leadership and explain how these strengths are critical to the success of the organization.
  3. Based on the employee satisfaction survey, identify the skills and behaviors that are current areas of weakness for leadership and explain how these areas may be improved by applying the self-assessment you used to create your own personal development plan.
  4. Describe the importance of including a personal development plan as an exemplar in the adaptive leadership toolkit and explain how SMART goal setting can help to improve the areas of weakness for leaders within the organization.
  5. Explain how the personal development plan and SMART goal setting could help develop the leadership styles of the leaders within the organization.

Guidelines for Submission

Submit a 3- to 4-page Word document using 12-point Times New Roman font, double spacing, and one-inch margins. Sources should be cited according to APA style

shared memories with that boy. John Locke would say that the boy and the old man are not the same person because “person” means

Since everyone was contradicting themselves left and right in the last discussion, we need to do this one again… Perhaps there was ambiguity in my questions, but nonetheless, this is an important dilemma for Locke and we’re going to get it right. There once was a boy who stole from a neighbor. Much later, this boy grew into an old man that now has ZERO shared memories with that boy. John Locke would say that the boy and the old man are not the same person because “person” means “recognizing one’s self over time”, which is impossible to do without shared memories. We even use phrases like “he’s not himself anymore” when referring to why people with Alzheimer’s act so differently than we have grown to expect of the person.Do you need to recognize yourself over time to be the same person? If not, what makes the same person the same over time?Again, please comment with your own original post, then reply to two classmates.

Leininger’s Culture Care Model, what factors in the story shared by Mrs. Franklin-Jones

 Discussion Question:

Margaret Newman stated, the nurse and client become partners in living through the period of disharmony and emerging at a higher level of consciousness, the nurse client relationships often begin during periods of disruption, uncertainty, and unpredictability in patient’s lives.  Explore what she means by this statement. Then, reflect on a patient that you cared for that you could apply her theory to. Provide details of the interaction and outcomes.

Your initial posting should be at least 400 words in length and utilize at least one scholarly source other than the textbook.

Assignment:

Leininger and Watson

Write a 1500-1750 word APA paper addressing each of the following points. Be sure to completely answer all the questions for each bullet point. Separate each section in your paper with a clear heading that allows your professor to know which bullet you are addressing in that section of your paper. Support your ideas with at least two (2) sources and the textbook using citations in your essay. Make sure to cite using the APA writing style for the essay. The cover page and reference page in correct APA do not count towards the minimum word amount. Review the rubric criteria for this assignment.

Case study #1

Mrs. Franklin-Jones was admitted from the Emergency Room to Cardiac Intensive Care one week ago with a diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction. She has recovered as expected and is moving to the cardiac step down unit today. She is talking with Nurse Julie Hernandez, as she gets settled in her new room, “I was really surprised when I got that bad pain in my chest! I knew I had high pressure but I just didn’t think it was that bad. I try to take my medicine like they told me to in the clinic but sometimes I forget. I guess that I need to study those papers they gave me about what foods I should eat and not eat. I better take care of myself! Momma had bad pressure and it killed her! Who knows—I may even have to learn to cook different than I was taught in Jamaica! I may have to let Tomas do the cooking. He’s got more time at home now than I do since he lost his job. There isn’t too much time between my shifts at the school cafeteria and my new housecleaning job. You know my sister is coming up from Jamaica to see me. I think she is bringing me some bush tea. That’ll set me right!”

  • Using Leininger’s Culture Care Model, what factors in the story shared by Mrs. Franklin-Jones should be considered by Nurse Hernandez when planning for the patient’s discharge?
  • Why is the theory of Culture Care Diversity important in the delivery of nursing care for all patients?
  • Using Leininger’s Theory of Culture Care Diversity and Universality, develop a plan of care for Mrs. Franklin-Jones.
  • Discuss the strengths and limits to Leininger’s Theory.

Case Study #2

Claude Jean-Baptiste is recovering from post-hip replacement surgery and has been transferred to the Rehabilitation Institute adjacent to the hospital. When he enters the unit, he sees welcoming signs written in several languages including his own, Creole. Since there are no nurses on that shift that speak Creole, they use a language line to ask for translation services. During this initial nursing assessment, the translator informs Mr. Jean-Baptiste that the nurses invite him to have a relative at his side so that they can be sure to understand and meet his needs. He is asked about Haitian customs and beliefs that they might honor. Mr. Jean-Baptiste is encouraged to bring food and spiritual care items, and to share the warmth of his culture with the nursing staff.

  • Discuss assumptions of the Transpersonal Caring relationship. What is the nurse’s role?
  • How is love, as defined by Watson, evident in this caring moment?
  • How can the nurse creatively use self to create a healing environment?
  • Discuss the strengths and limits to Watson’s Theory.

Assignment Expectations:

Length: 1500 – 1750 words

Structure: Include a title page and reference page in APA format.  These do not count towards the minimum word count for this assignment. Your essay must include an introduction and a conclusion.

References: Use appropriate APA style in-text citations and references for all resources utilized to answer the questions. A minimum of two (2) outside scholarly sources and the textbook are required for this assignment.

Rubric: This assignment uses a rubric for scoring. Please review it as part of your assignment preparation and again prior to submission to ensure you have addressed its criteria at the highest level.

Format: Save your assignment as a Microsoft Word document (.doc or .docx) or PDF document (.pdf)

File name: Name your saved file according to your first initial, last name, and the assignment number (for example, “RHall Assignment 1.docx”)

Avocado idea of the self and explain at least one version of the idea that human beings have a shared essential nature

W3Project

Instructions

Reality, Art, and Truth

This 6-8 page essay assignment will be completed in three parts. You may want to use section headers to organize your paper. Remember to explain the theories you reference with supporting citations to the textbook and online lectures in correct APA format.

Part I. The Self

Discuss the avocado idea of the self and explain at least one version of the idea that human beings have a shared essential nature (such as Cartesian rationalism or Greek philosophy). Contrast this account with the artichoke idea of the self (drawing upon existentialism to develop your account) and a discussion of how the modern/avocado and postmodern/artichoke ideas of the self differ. You may use your analysis from the Week 2 assignments to develop your account in Part I.

Part II. The Avocado Self and Art as Representation

Explain the idea that art is mimesis (Plato and/or Aristotle) and how this is like the avocado idea of the self. Discuss a character/narrator/subject in a work of art (novel, poem, film, graphic novel, short story, television show, song, painting, etc.) who you think captures the avocado/art as mimesis idea that we have an essential, shared human nature and that art reflects this reality for us.

Part III. The Artichoke Self and Art as Transformation

Explain the idea that art is transformative/how artistic creation expresses the unity of subject and object (Nietzsche, Schelling, and/or Heidegger). Discuss how this reflects the artichoke idea of the self. Discuss a character/narrator/subject in a work of art (novel, poem, film, graphic novel, short story, television show, song, painting, etc.) who you think captures the artichoke/post-modern idea of the self and the idea that art creates truth.

Part IV. Art and Philosophy

Finally, reflect upon the relationship between art and philosophy by considering some of the following questions:

  1. Are the self and the material world distinct entities, as Descartes thinks? What are some examples of representative art that illustrate the idea that the subject/mind and the object/world/body are distinct? Alternatively, are the self and the world organic unities, as Schelling argues? How might artistic creation express this unity of subject and object?
  2. Is art mimesis/representation (as in Platonism and Aristotelian aesthetics) or is it a means of transforming the self and reality? Might it be aspirational, allowing us to achieve catharsis, as Aristotle suggests? Consider, too, how the idea of art as representation is akin to the avocado view while the idea of art as transformative is more like the artichoke view.
  3. What is the relationship between art and philosophy? Do you agree with Descartes that logic and critical thinking are the best means of achieving certainty about reality and existence, or is your view more akin to the perspective of Keats, Schelling, Schopenhauer, Nietzsche, and/or Heidegger that art is the ultimate expression of truth? How are these views a rejection of the natural standpoint we see adopted by empiricism and rationalism and rejected by phenomenology?
  4. Do some kinds of art (music, for example) express the truth more fully than others? How so? How does the idea and purpose of art differ across cultures?

To identify the most important qualities shared by outstanding sports writers

INTRODUCTION

Outstanding sports writers possess a variety of different skills.

The first part of this assignment asks you to examine a piece of quality sports writing and identify some of the key writing skills that went into it.

The second part of this assignment focuses on cliches.

A cliche is defined as “a phrase or opinion that is overused and betrays a lack of original thought”.

Cliches are used as a crutch by both athletes and broadcasters.

You should try to eliminate using cliches as much as possible in your writing.

**NOTE: THIS IS A TWO-PART ASSIGNMENT**

OBJECTIVE

  • To identify the most important qualities shared by outstanding sports writers

       You’ll do that by:

       1) Analyzing an example of sportswriting of your choice

       2) Creating a Top 10 list of qualities associated with outstanding BROADCAST WRITERS

  • To identify cliches and replace them with more original language in your copy

INSTRUCTIONS

ASSIGNMENT REQUIREMENTS

PART I :

**(PART II INSTRUCTIONS ARE NEAR THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE.  MAKE SURE YOU COMPLETE BOTH PARTS OF THE ASSIGNMENT)**

To complete the first part of this assignment, you must find an example of great sports writing.

Your writing sample can showcase either broadcast writing or print writing (broadcast is preferred).

Surf sports websites or do a Google search to find the article or video you plan to use for this assignment.

**If you pick a broadcast writing sample, you will need to send me a link from your video source.  You do NOT need to have the script written out- just send me a video sample.**

NOTE:  Sports debate shows generally aren’t scripted, so do NOT use the debate portion of a debate show for your example.  Find something you know is likely scripted (Examples: Scott Van Pelt’s “One Big Thing”, introductions to highlights on SportsCenter, “Face Time” on Around the Horn, local sportscasts).

Prepare a three-to-five minute presentation video breaking down:

1) Why the sample you’ve chosen is effective

2) Why it’s an example of great sports writing

The entire presentation video will be based on your own personal opinion.

*Begin your presentation video by explaining the piece of outstanding sports writing you chose.

*Be sure to include WHY THE SAMPLE YOU’VE CHOSEN IS EFFECTIVE  and WHY IT’S AN EXAMPLE OF GREAT SPORTS WRITING.

NOTE:  If you choose a broadcast writing clip, you do NOT need to include video of the example of outstanding sports writing you chose in your presentation video.  You have the option of including clips of your sample if you want to, but it is NOT MANDATORY.

Part of your presentation video MUST include you on camera performing your material.

*Conclude your presentation video by *reading over* EITHER GRAPHICS OR KEYNOTE/POWERPOINT SLIDES listing your Top 10 list of qualities associated with outstanding BROADCAST WRITERS (note: not broadcasters, BROADCAST WRITERS) and *summarize what each quality means*

**Your Keynote (or PowerPoint) slides need to be edited into your project if you choose to use them.**

**After you show us your Top 10 list in your presentation video, point out which qualities in your Top 10 list were displayed in the writing sample you chose and specifically explain WHERE THEY WERE USED in the piece of writing you chose.**

Again, be sure to edit the Keynote (or PowerPoint) slides into your project on iMovie (or another editing program you’re comfortable with).

*The Keynote slides should match the audio they’re paired with and should appear in the appropriate portions of your presentation video.*

**To do create a video of your slides for editing purposes, create a Keynote (or PowerPoint) presentation with slides for your Top 10 qualities.  Go to the top of the page and click on “File” (make sure you’re in the Keynote or PowerPoint program before you do this).  Bring your cursor down to “Export To” and then click on “Movie”.  You’ll be given options for when to go to the next slide and have any “builds” come onto the screen.  I recommend changing the settings to give you 15-20 seconds between slides to give you more leeway for editing them.  Once you’ve created your movie file, upload it into iMovie (or whatever editing program you’re using) and proceed to edit the clips into your presentation video.**

**PART II INSTRUCTIONS- REMEMBER: YOU NEED TO COMPLETE BOTH PARTS OF THIS ASSIGNMENT**

PART II:

To complete the second part of this assignment, follow the instructions below:

1) Read the script below and identify the cliches embedded within it:

WHEN IT COMES TO HOCKEY… WAYNE GRETZKY IS IN A LEAGUE OF HIS OWN.

THE CANADIAN SUPERSTAR HAS BEEN ON TOP OF HIS GAME SINCE HE WAS A TEENAGER… AND NO ONE WILL EVER SURPASS HIS DOMINANCE IN THE SPORT.

SKILLED, SMART, AND POSSESSING THE HEART OF A CHAMPION… GRETZKY WON FOUR STANLEY CUPS… AND RETIRED WITH MORE THAN SIXTY N-H-L STATISTICAL RECORDS.

YOU CAN’T SAY ENOUGH ABOUT HIM.

WAYNE GRETZKY’S MORE THAN JUST “THE GREAT ONE”.

 HE’S “THE GREATEST ONE”.

REMEMBER: A cliche is defined as “a phrase or opinion that is overused and betrays a lack of original thought”.  Cliches are used as a crutch by both athletes and broadcasters.  You should try to eliminate using cliches as much as possible in your writing.

2) Rewrite the script replacing the cliches with original language

3) Send me your script in a Word or PDF document

4) Record yourself on camera reading your new script, and send me the video file of your recording

*PLEASE READ YOUR SCRIPT OUT OF THE TELEPROMPTER PROGRAM ON RUNDOWN CREATOR SO YOU CAN GET PROMPTER PRACTICE*

**You should’ve received an email with you Rundown Creator account information.  Click the link in your email to get started.  Then head to https://www.rundowncreator.com/fullsail/Login.php to use the program.**

HERE’S A LINK THAT EXPLAINS EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT RUNDOWN CREATOR:

You need to upload and submit the following items:

1) The example of great sports writing you’ve selected in a PDF document with a link to your source

**Remember- If you picked a broadcast writing sample, you will need to send me a LINK OF THE VIDEO.  You do NOT need to have the script written out- just send me a video sample.**

2) Your presentation video (uploaded directly to FSO)

**NOTE:  There is a 500 MB limit for uploading files in FSO.  If your file is over that limit, either reduce the file size (Google how to do this- one program you can download is https://handbrake.fr/ OR upload your video to YouTube and send me the link via FSO message)**

3) A Word or PDF document of the script you rewrote that replaces cliches with original language

4) A video of you performing your new cliche-less script from Part II of this assignment (upload this video directly to FSO)
