Phycological and physiological indicators of stress

Discussion Question:

Stress has not only become a way of life, but it has also become a sometimes-welcomed friend. Add it to your college, job, family, and you have the potential for continual stress. Understanding that stress is a part of life and cannot be avoided, strategies must be developed to facilitate adaptation.

Discussion Questions:

1-What is your definition of stress?

2-What are the phycological and physiological indicators of stress?

3-Identify a personal situation you found highly stressful?

4-Which techniques can be used to manage or reduce stress?

Note: You are to submit your answers in the Discussion Board and to reply to two peers. Support your responses with at least 2 peer-reviewed references within 5 years of publication. All responses must be in a narrative format and each paragraph must have at least 4 sentences.

Grading Criteria

Your answer to the discussion question should be supported with research, examples or references to the literature, and personal experiences in order to be considered substantive. You must make an initial posting in order to view other threads to complete peer responses. If you submit a blank thread, you will earn a zero.

  1. Respond to at least 2 postings of a classmate each week. Use the “reply” prompt to the entry to keep the discussion “threaded”. Points are also awarded for your substantive response to each peer (See grading rubric for point calculation).
  2. All initial postings must be a minimum of 200 words.
  3.  All peer responses must be a minimum of 150 words. Postings less than the required minimum will not earn any points. Greetings, signatures, and references are not part of the word count.
  4. American Psychological Association (APA) edition 7 format must be used appropriately, citing a minimum of 2 references per initial posting and 1 reference per peer response. If APA formatting for references is not used correctly, no credit will be earned – both in the sections of the grading rubric requiring a minimum number of references and in the APA section. References that are not in APA do not count for any credit.

There are numerous disorders that have been linked to stress, including depression, anxiety, heart attacks, stroke, hypertension, and immune system disturbances

STRESS AND ILLNESS

There are numerous disorders that have been linked to stress, including depression, anxiety, heart attacks, stroke, hypertension, and immune system disturbances. In addition, stress can have direct effects on the gastrointestinal system by aggravating existing conditions like ulcers, irritable bowel syndrome, and ulcerative colitis. Nervous system disorders can be affected by stress, like insomnia and Parkinson’s disease. In fact, it’s hard to think of any disease in which stress cannot play an aggravating role. As you might recall from your Module 1 SLP Assignment, there are four major categories of stress symptoms: cognitive, behavioral, emotional, and physical. In this Module’s assignment, you will build on this knowledge by exploring disorders that are associated with these categories.

SLP Assignment

For this SLP assignment, you will choose one disorder from the four major categories of stress (cognitive, physical, behavioral, or emotional) as shown in the table below. Your assignment will be to develop a PowerPoint presentation that includes the following:Category

Behavioral

Cognitive

Emotional

Physical

Disorder

Obesity

Insomnia

Depression

Irritable bowel syndrome

Slide 1Title Slide with Name, Course, and Date

Slide 2 – IntroductionTopics to be covered in outline form

Slides 3-5Choose one disorder from the table above. Briefly describe your chosen disorder. What are the symptoms of your chosen disorder? How does stress affect/cause/manifest/enhance this condition? How many people are affected by the disorder? Describe how your chosen disorder is associated with its main category of stress from the table (i.e., how is insomnia sometimes a cognitive condition?).

Slide 6Describe how your chosen disorder overlaps with the other categories of stress listed from the table (i.e., obesity may be influenced by behavioral styles such as overeating in reaction to stress, but there may be emotional components as well).

Slides 7-8Choose and describe one occupation at high risk for stress (firefighter, policeman, trauma nurse, service member, air traffic controller, etc). What are the main causes for your chosen occupation’s stress? How does this stress affect their ability to perform? (Be sure to incorporate aspects of physical, emotional, cognitive, and/or behavioral functions). Include an image representing your chosen occupation.

Slide 9 – Conclusion Summarize your project findings.

Slide 10—References APA Format

SLP Assignment Expectations

For this SLP assignment you will develop a PowerPoint Presentation that is approximately 1-10 slides in length and addresses the requirements outlined above. Place the text containing the answers to the questions above in the slide area, summarizing each topic using bullet points (in your own words, expand in more detail using the notes area). Images to convey text will not be accepted.

Be sure to include citations referencing your sources on each slide (use either the slide or notes area). Include a descriptive title for each slide that describes the topic being discussed. Be sure to include a title slide with your name, assignment type (ex. SLP Module 1 or 3), and course title. Include an introduction slide with the subjects you will cover in outline form. Existentialist philosophers stress the point that human beings are free to fashion their lives and to determine what they will be in life. the existentialist philosophers

For this reason, existentialist philosophers stress the point that human beings are free to fashion their lives and to determine what they will be in life. the existentialist philosophers, therefore, stress the need to live authentically, which means, facing human existential challenges genuinely and boldly in an effort to develop one’s potentials fully and to become the best that one can be. One of the existentialist philosophers who strongly support this view is Paul Sartre. According to Sartre, human beings are condemned to be free.

By this Sartre meant that human beings are completely free to determine what they will be in life. Sartre also argued that existentialism is humanism, by this he meant that the existentialist approach to life helps one to achieve his full potentials and to be the best that he/she can be.This paper is an application of Sartre’s existential approach to life, tersely summarized by the phrase. existentialism is humanism, to the work of American art painted during the World War 11 period. The work of art interpreted existentially in this paper, through Sartre’s existentialist philosopher is the Sky’s the Limit!

Poster authored by Allen Courtney in 1944 (World War 11 Poster: The Sky’s the Limit!, web). The interpretation will show how the poster exemplifies the existentialist themes of facticity or throws, anxiety, and despair. These existentialist themes are central in Sartre’s existentialism. The SKY’s the Limit! The poster consists of three mechanics building/repairing an airplane. Two of the mechanics in the poster are men, while one of them is a lady. The lady in the poster has a bandana on her head, and she is presented as a strongly built lady.

Behind the working mechanics are military warplanes, clearly visible in the background

How change and/or stress can impact a personal life

Normative and non-normative events help us understand how change and stress may impact our quality of life. Using the South University Library, locate 2 scholarly journal articles written in the last 5-6 years on how change and/or stress can impact a personal life. Look especially for how sudden, unanticipated (non-normative events) events can impact a person’s quality of life.

Write a summary.
Describe the main points of the article and how they relate to the week’s course and text readings.
Use the lessons and vocabulary found in the readings. Your responses should clarify your understanding of the topic and should be original and free from plagiarism. Follow APA guidelines for the writing style, spelling and grammar, and citation of sources.
I have attached articles from the library that’s within the last 5 to 6years for reference on how stress can impact our life.

Stress is described as a process by which a person or individual react when encountered internal or external challenges and problems. Studies have showed that all living organism have several systems to coordinate including the adaptive responses to changes both at the cellular and systematic levels. This means that stress has a direct effect on the whole anatomy of the body(Shields, et al., 2016). Therefore, a failure by an individual to adapt to both normative and non-normative stressful changes can lead to brain malfunction and physiological problems in the form of burnout, pain, anxiety and depression. Normative and non-normative changes people encounter in their daily life such as conflict with friends, health challenges issues or financial difficulties exerts varied pressure or force on the spirit and mind. Some of the changes be as a result of environmental factors or personality such as low confidence, discouragement, regrets, anxiousness and worry. To understand, the concept of stress from change perspective, two articles were analyzed.

The first article was published by Shields et al. (2016), which focused on the “Stress-related changes in personality: A longitudinal study of perceived stress and trait pessimism.” The main point of the study was to established the relationship between change in pessimism and perceived stress. The findings showed that there was significant correlation between perceived stress and change in pessimism(Shields, et al., 2016). The findings were consistent with previous studies which showed that due to dynamics of personality, there is major life transitions and stressor which can be used to predict change in personality overtime. Furthermore, the findings from this article added knowledge to the existing literature by indicating that experiences of non-severe stress also have significant correlation with personality change. However, non-severe stressors occur more frequently and the effects are of smaller magnitude on personality change as compared…………………………………………………………………………………………………
