COLLABORATION TECHNOLOGIES AND IT INFRASTRUCTURE

Case

COLLABORATION TECHNOLOGIES AND IT INFRASTRUCTURE

Assignment Overview

Working in teams separated by time zones is always a challenge. For this Case you will be assigned to a team of 5 other students. This will provide an opportunity for you to use a collaboration group tool or tools as you research an issue of IT Infrastructure to support your collaborative learning and to share your findings with other members of your team. Have your professor pre-approve this topic for the team. Post a discussion of the team processes and the team’s conclusions on the IT infrastructure topic selected to your individual case area. Be sure to include references to support your discussion. It is very important that you provide a detailed analysis of the team interaction and your opinion of the team results.

Case Assignment

Collaborative Work

You will see the members of your team in the announcement area; your professor will also email the names of your team members. Reach out early and get to know each other. Those who live in time zones that make it difficult to interact with the team or who have some other difficulty can opt to do the project independently with the professor’s approval. In the discussion on group processes, reflection on groups in which you have worked in the past is acceptable.

Each team should agree on which collaboration tool to use (e.g., Skype or Zoom https://www.zoom.us/) for group meeting video conferencing. Using your trident.edu email address gives you access to a free Zoom account for sessions up to 40 minutes. Once an account is created, the team leader can send the Zoom link to all team members for your face-to-face meetings, in which you can also share screens. For document sharing, Google Docs is recommended. Here is a video on how to share Google documents with others (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oFE1iCPafTA). A Gmail account is required to use Google Docs. Google Docs allows the team members to access on the same document as you prepare your Case.

In this assignment, you are required to write a report and discuss the following:

*This will provide an opportunity for you to use a collaboration group tool or tools as you research an issue of IT Infrastructure to support your collaborative learning and to share your findings with other members of your team.

*Reflect on your experience with interacting with the team members: what you learn from others and yourself through this collaboration, whether the collaboration is successful, what problems/issues occur and why, how they are addressed, how you can do better next time when the similar circumstances occur. Please note that this reflection on team experience is based on your experience, these questions mean for prompt you for self-reflection, not necessarily mandatory questions that must be addressed since each team is different. Depending on what happened in your team, reflections are different from person to person.

Assignment Expectations

This Case is to cover team processes and the IT infrastructure to support team processes. For the IT infrastructure, refer to Module 3, Lecture 1: Business IT Networks and Components (above). The IT infrastructure consists of components identified as hardware, software, communication systems, data resources, and people. These components apply to information systems, and in Module 3, you will be analyzing collaboration systems. Your Case will:

*Discuss the backgrounds of each

*Present findings on the IT infrastructure to support team processes discussing hardware, software, communication systems, data resources, and people for the selected tool or application, and providing a comparison across the various group collaboration tools.

*Include references to support your discussion with a detailed analysis of the team interaction and your opinion of the team results. (Reflect on teams you have worked with in the past if you did the project independently. If they were not virtual teams, then speculate how the Group Technology would have changed your team experience.)

Describe patient-care technologies as appropriate to address the needs of a diverse patient population

Healthcare technology: Local, National, and Global Considerations

Imagine that you are a public health nurse, and you and your colleagues have determined that the threat of a deadly new strain of influenza indicates a need for a mass inoculation program in your community. What public health data would have been used to determine the need for such a program? Where would you locate public health data? What data will be collected to determine the success of such a program? How might you communicate this to other communities or internationally?

This week should be fun as you are thinking like a nurse to utilize your investigative processes! What would you do if you found a new strain that could potentially be a community health problem? As you are preparing for this post, ensure to think in terms of mode of transmission, vulnerable populations, and data needed etc. Using the information obtained to provide effective and timely communication is key!

Reminder: please utilize the Q&A Forum, or email me, if you have any questions or concerns. I am looking forward to our discussions.

  • CO 1: Describe patient-care technologies as appropriate to address the needs of a diverse patient population.
  • CO 2: Analyze data from all relevant sources, including technology, to inform the delivery of care.
  • CO 4: Investigate safeguards and decision-making support tools embedded in patient care technologies and information systems to support a safe practice environment for both patients and healthcare workers.
  • CO 5: Identify patient care technologies, information systems, and communication devices that support nursing practice.
  • CO 6: Discuss the principles of data integrity, professional ethics, and legal requirements related to data security, regulatory requirements, confidentiality, and client’s right to privacy.
  • CO 8: Discuss the value of best evidence as a driving force to institute change in delivery of nursing care.

Best regards,

ATTN: after you write your discussion, you will need to comment my classmate discussion that is below.

Hello Professor & Class

What public health data would have been used to determine the need for such a program?

For us to be able to determine if mass vaccination is needed, we would need to gather data available about the new strain of influenza disease. Since we know that influenza is spread by droplet. We would have to look at the population that it is having a bigger impact, the spread of it, and how contagious. This data could be retrieved from hospitals who are reporting new cases to the health department. EHR’s can help provide accurate surveillance of the disease process without breaking HIPPA when data is reported (McGonigle & Mastrian, 2018).

Where would you locate public health data?

I can locate data on the Department of Public Health across the country. In the state of Illinois, they received data from the Department of Public Health of any disease spread, and new cases of disease increase. They gather this from the hospitals because they are required to report this information. To surveillance this data in a timely manner and precise way we would have to look at different options. I research as to how they monitor the COVID-19 pandemic and I found out there is two techniques (CDC, 2021). One of them is called the aggregate count where the team divides into 2 groups. The first team collects information from jurisdictions website, which are credible websites. Then passed it on the team 2 for verification of information and sends it over to jurisdictions to confirmed accuracy and make corrections if need it and published it to the website. The second method is called the line-level data. A more detailed approach and is the second part to determine mass inoculation. They gather more information about the individuals that have died such as race, age, and ethnicity (CDC, 2021). They can note who is most at risk and mass inoculation is appropriate and who is it appropriate for.

What data will be collected to determine the success of such a program?

A way to collect the success of the program would be referring to the CDC once again, since the inoculation has been provided, they continue to aggregate count. We should be able to see the number of cases and deaths declining, which then would mean the effectiveness.

How might you communicate this to other communities or internationally?

We can communicate information to the locally and nationally by the news outlet, social media, radio. We can also print information into newspaper for individuals who do not own technology devices.

Background
The Covid-19 Pandemic has had a devastating impact on our personal lives during the last six months. On top of that, all organizations operations, Government, NGOs and businesses have been heavily disrupted. Organisations with leading edge technology, particularly remote, autonomous, automatic/robotic and AI functions may have been better able to cope with the disruptions. However, all organizations that have survived the initial disruptions have had to amend their business practices to deal with the “New Normal” reality of the ongoing pandemic.
This research essay gives your team the chance to research a topic of interest in some depth. Your team is to write a research essay exploring different technologies and techniques used by organisations in the initial disruption and also how organisations are developing new strategies to operate and compete in the “new normal”. Your focus will be on the use of information technology, be it innovative use of existing technology or the use or intended use of emerging technologies. Also you should focus on other strategies organisations have used such as restructuring of the organisation, changing IT or business processes, outsourcing, or any other strategy used.
It is too early since the beginning of the pandemic for there to be a great deal of main stream research literature on this topic. However, you should find a host of information from other sources such as news outlets, individual organisations and business sources. An example would be https://www.mckinsey.com/business-functions/risk/our-insights/covid-19-implications-for-business. This site explores aspects of the recovery process and may assist you in understanding the challenges that all organisations face.
The research essay should pull together the significant readings you have identified, and present a critical summary of the nature, state and likely future directions and strategies of organisations during and post the pandemic.
To do:
To successfully complete the assignment, you must begin searching for relevant literature immediately. Find a minimum of 15 relevant sources of information covering between at least 3 and up to 6 separate organisations. The sources may be journal articles (if at all possible), online reports or articles.
After reading each article, you should think about how they all fit together. Your review should be organized by concepts, such as findings, rather than by sources of information. Do not proceed through the articles one-by-one in your research essay. This will make for extremely boring reading. Bring forward the generalised concepts of the technologies or techniques used. E.g. online meetings with Teams and zoom etc. would sit in the area of remote group cooperative working etc.
Your essay should include:
• An introduction that describes the journey the reader will be taken on whilst reading your essay
• The main body that reviews the literature and compares the technologies and the comparative effectiveness of them to assist the organisations continued or renewed competitive advantage.
• A conclusion that compares and highlights what you believe have been the most successful innovations used to support organisations through this unprecedented period of history.
Format Guidelines
• Give your research essay a title that clearly reflects its contents.
• Your review should be around 2500 words in length, but can be longer if you wish.
• Include appropriate citations throughout the review
• Use APA or IEEE referencing style, but be consistent in its use.
• Include an author/date bibliography at the end
• Your submission should include a minimum of 15 references (one for each source)
NOTE: Plagiarism is not acceptable. Your submission will go through URKUND so be aware that plagiarism is easily detected and WILL be reported.
