Re: Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care
Memo
Hi Simone,
I enjoyed speaking with you on Friday. I have had a chance to consider your training needs and believe the course CHC30113 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care from the Training Package: CHC – Community Services will develop your knowledge and skills necessary for a career within a child care centre. [POINT 1]
This course is designed for those who are working or intending to work within the children’s services industry. It provides a useful introduction into understanding, caring for and supporting the development of young children. With the practical training you’ll receive during this course, you can look forward to a rewarding career as a childcare worker.
To achieve the CHC30113 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care, you must complete 18 units of study:
• 15 Core units
• 4 Electives
You can access the full range of units and further qualification details by clicking on this link to the Qualification at training.gov.au: CHC30113 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care.
Based on the fact that you want to work in a childcare centre. I believe that the unit: CHCECE005 – Provide care for babies and toddlers is a great core unit for you to complete as it allows you to practically apply the skills and knowledge required when providing care to babies and toddlers in an actual workplace environment. [POINT 2]
This means that you will be able to access real regulated education and care services and that all of the assessment will allow actual interaction with babies and toddlers.
I have also chosen the following electives for you based on your desire to work within a childcare facility setting and not a school: [POINT 3]
• CHCECE006 -Support behaviour of children and young people
• CHCECE017 -Foster the holistic development and wellbeing of the child in early childhood
• CHCPRT003 -Work collaboratively to maintain an environment safe for children and young people
• SRCCRO008B – Interact positively with infants, toddlers and parents in a recreation environment
Please be in touch with any further questions at all.

In your life, there are likely many situations that require you to compare quantities, understand the meaning of those comparisons, and make decisions based on those comparisons. What is an example of a situation from your professional or personal life that requires you to compare, understand, and make decisions based on quantitative comparison? Be sure to describe the types of quantitative comparisons you had to make, what decisions you made, and why. Would your decision be different if you had the benefit of learning this week’s concepts? Why or why not?

In the fall I will start a new position as a testing coordinator for an elementary school. In this role I will be responsible for testing kids on quarterly tests and a yearly state test. I will have to read data comparing the number of students with the best test outcomes to the students with the worst scores and in between. It is important that I master the concepts of week 2 as I will be using percentages and ratios on a daily basis in this new role and will need to have accurate data on each student.

At my current job we focus on rates, rates to my job dictate how well our building is performing to other locations and how well each individual employee is performing against their peers as well. Day to day I would have to track the previous weeks rates for a group of individuals and compare to the week to date rates. By comparing these metrics I can track if those employees a moving in a positive or negative way for the current week. Understanding the comparison I can prepare a way to help those employees but also bridge to my boss what the miss was on the rates for the current week vs the previous week if we fell short on our goal. However, some barriers my interrupt the employees ability to work because of this I have to find the percentage of employees affected by those barriers and compare that percentage to the percentage unaffected and determine if the rates created were on spot or was it off due to the amount to employees affected by operational barriers

Remember to watch the Lecture Videos and additional videos in iCollege for examples on these topics and how to comment your program correctly.  **Please do not use any advanced material that is not in Chapters 1 or 2.

We will be completing our Programming Projects using Code Check.  Nothing is required by you to use this program.  For each project, I will provide a URL that will take you to the project to complete.  Once you have completed the coding project(s) (you have unlimited attempts), you will download the Report from the Code Check website and upload this zipped file(s) to this Assignment folder.  Inside this zipped file will be your completed code and your *calculated score based on testing.  You may use your IDE (jGrasp/Eclipse) to write the code and then copy and paste over to Code Check, if desired.

*The calculated score will be located at the bottom of your submission in the form of (for example) “5/5 = 100%”, “4/5 = 80%”, “3/5 = 60%”, etc.  IF YOU DO NOT obtain 100%, I encourage you to reach out for help on the Problem & Solutions Blog with your error messages so others can help.  You can also view the “Common Code Check Errors” document located in iCollege.  Please make sure you have viewed the “How to Use Code Check” video before starting.

TakeoutOrder.java

We will be writing a simple program to model a take out fast food order.  Once we have the user’s name and food order, we will output the “check” or “receipt” with the total purchase.

The following are sample runs of the program to help you write your code and format your output.  Please make note of “blank” lines in between output statements.  It must match exactly to pass the Code Check tests.

Sample Output 1:

Instructions for Part 1:

  1. Go to the following URL to complete the project: Programming Project 1
  2. If using and IDE (jGrasp or Eclipse), create a new class file named TakeoutOrder.Javascript with a main method.
  3. You will be filling in code everywhere you see the ellipses (. . .) in the code.  Please follow the instructions and use the Sample Outputs to guide you.
  4. Write the Class comment and @author and @version tags
  5. Declare and initialize 5 Constants for:
    1. The cost of a hamburger is 4.75
    2. The cost of a cheeseburger is 4.95
    3. The cost of a small fry is 1.00
    4. The cost of a large fry is 2.50
    5. The cost of a drink (one size only) is 2.75
      • Remember to name your Constants according to Javascript standards using ALL_CAPS.
  6. Use a series of println statements to output the “Greeting” message (see Sample Output)
  7. The prompt for the user’s first name is already included in Code Check.  Create a variable to store the input for the first name and use a Scanner method to read the value from the Console.
  8. The prompt for the user’s last name is already included in Code Check.  Create a variable to store the input for the last name and use a Scanner method to read the value from the Console.
  9. Following the example of Steps 7 & 8, write the prompts for each food item and create variables to store the inputs.  Use Scanner methods to read in the values from the Console.  (You will have 5 more prompt and input statements.)
  10. Using only existing variables and Constants, calculate the total cost of the bill (receipt).  No *magic* numbers here – use the variables and constants only.
  11. Using printf statements, output the Restaurant name (Burger Hut) and the date and time (6/2/8/2021 5:51 PM) indented.  *Note: To indent the output in, you will need a numerical value in your printf statement before the ‘s’ in %s  (see p. 52).  You can judge how far in to indent by comparing the ‘B’ in Burger to the line above it – notice it is under the ‘d’ in drinks.
  12. Using a println statement, output the last name, first initial of the user.
  13. Using printf statements, output the total with 2 decimal places (see p. 52) and the goodbye message indented .  Again, use the method of Step 11 to judge how far to indent.  You will also need the \\ and // in the message, so please make sure to look at Escape Sequences.
  14. Submit your code in Code Check and check the results of the tests. Please correct any error messages or output formatting issues.
  15. Once you have everything correct, download the zipped file and then upload to this Assignment folder.  You should see a “Download” button that looks like this that will give you a zipped file containing your code and test data:

Testing and Submitting

Once you have thoroughly tested your program, please upload the zipped file only to this Programming Project 1 folder.

You will be graded on:

  1. Neatness of code and use of proper indentation of 4 spaces, 8 spaces, etc.  This is the Checkstyle part of your Report.
  2. Commenting of code – including class comment, @author, @version, and code comments. This is the Checkstyle part of your Report.
  3. Good use of constant and variable names – they should be descriptive names and not individual characters or abbreviations.  Ex.  FINAL_COST or firstName. This is the Checkstyle part of your Report.
  4. Output is correct and matches the Sample Output for all tests that executed on your code in Code Check.  This is the Test 1, Test 2, etc. part of your Report.  They must say “Pass”.
  5. Correct calculations using variables and constants (i.e. the math is correct).  This is the Test 1, Test 2, etc. part of your Report.
  6. My visual inspection of your code.  I will be checking for good variable and constant names and well as good indenting of code.  Instructor reserves the right to make adjustments to the Code Check score based on inspection

Look at the distribution of the continuous variables in the data set using PROC UNIVARIATE, including producing histograms and insets with means, standard deviations and sample size

1. Performing a One-Sample t-Test

The data in STAT1.NormTemp come from an article in the Journal of Statistics Education by Dr. Allen L. Shoemaker from the Psychology Department at Calvin College. The data are based on an article in a 1992 edition of JAMA (Journal of the American Medical Association), which questions the notion that the true mean body temperature is 98.6. There are 65 males and 65 females. There is also some question about whether mean body temperatures for women are the same as for men. The variables in the data set are as follows:

ID Identification number

BodyTemp Body temperature (degrees Fahrenheit)

Gender Coded (MaleFemale)

HeartRate Heart rate (beats per minute)

a. Look at the distribution of the continuous variables in the data set using PROC UNIVARIATE, including producing histograms and insets with means, standard deviations and sample size.

b. Perform a one-sample t-test to determine whether the mean of body temperatures (the variable BodyTemp in STAT1.NormTemp) is 98.6. Produce a confidence interval plot of BodyTemp with the value 98.6 used as a reference.

1) What is the value of the t statistic and the corresponding p-value?

2) Do you reject or fail to reject the null hypothesis at the 0.05 level that the average temperature

2. Using PROC TTEST for Comparing Groups

Elli Sagerman, a Masters of Education candidate in German Education at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2000, collected data for a study. She looked at the effectiveness of a new type of foreign language teaching technique on grammar skills. She selected 30 students to receive tutoring; 15 received the new type of training during the tutorials and 15 received standard tutoring. Two students moved away from the district before completing the study. Scores on a standardized German grammar test were recorded immediately before the 12-week tutorials and then again 12 weeks later at the end of the trial. Sagerman wanted to see the effect of the new technique on grammar skills. The data are in the STAT1.GERMAN data set.

Change Change in grammar test scores

Group The assigned treatment, coded Treatment and Control

Analyze the data using PROC TTEST. Assess whether the treatment group improved more than the control group.

a. Do the two groups appear to be approximately normally distributed?

b. Do the two groups have approximately equal variances?

c. Does the new teaching technique seem to result in significantly different change scores compared with the standard technique?
