• What is a modem?
• How is data transmitted across from his local computer to the remote location via the modem?
o Provide a detailed explanation of what transmission signaling is being used.

Remote Data Communication
Data Transmission through a Modem
The term “MODEM” is a short term for MOdulator DEModulator (Arora, 2006, p. 254). Modem is a hardware device that is used for two-way network communication to convert between analog and digital data. Traditional modems were employed on the dial-up networks for conversion of data between the analog forms used in telephone lines to the digital forms employed in computers. The acoustic coupler is most common type of modem, which is used in libraries and information units in portable machines, while external and internal direct-connect are often common with permanent stations.
How Data is Communicated from Local Computer to Remote Network through a Modem According to (Huang, 2014, p. 456) data communication between a local computer to a remote network through a modem can be categorized into three phases; connection establishment, data transmission and disconnection. In the first phase, the connection is established when the computer asserts the DTR (Data Terminal Ready) signal to indicate to the local computer that it is ready to make a call. The local computer then opens……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….
