Defining Terms

Stylistic evidence refers to the historical analysis of the style, which shows the distinctive ways in which the artist produces an object (Kleiner, 2015). Although it gives a special way in which art historian can analyse artistic style, the stylistic evidence has been viewed as the most unreliable method of analysis. Despite its unreliability, stylistic evidence is still used by art historians to determine chronology.

The personal style dates back to the times of the Greeks and finds applications in the work of numerous artists. Many art literary descriptions for example exhibitions, books and exhibitions define the styles of artists by single person. Personal style concentrates only on one specific artist, although it can include the work done by other artists under the name “in style of”. Some art historians consider the work of artist as a product of the work of hand of the artist in eyes of the viewer.

On the other hand, the iconography is the study of the subjects, themes and objects as seen in visual arts and forms one of the branches of art history (Van Straten & de Man, 1994). In addition, iconography can encompass the use of the symbols in order to convey certain meanings in other genres such as fill and television production and religious iconography.
